Can you put anyone else on your team that will possibly dim the spotlight on Kobe?  Be careful who you take next or your days as coach may be over.

I don't know, he won 3 titles with Shaq.. and almost a couple more before that went totally to hell. I think alot of these teams are going to need Phil Jackson or maybe Dr. Phil to massage the egos.

initial reaction to the top 10:  I'm simultaneously surprised and unsurprised at Wilt not going 2.

I figured Kareem would be top 5... though I really can see Hakeem coming first.  I like Russell because... face it, this draft will be full of guys that can score.  Russell won 11 rings surrounded by better offensive players he could spur on... I think that's easily something to base your dynasty on.

I could see arguments for flip-flopping Duncan & Shaq.  I also think Kobe should have been top 10, so maybe a flip-flop there with Oscar.

Otherwise... hard to argue anything.  Fun times!

My only head scratching on the picks so far came with Hakeem going ahead of Kareem.  I'm not sure on what front Hakeem out does Kareem and when is Hakeem mentioned or thought of as a better cornerstone to a team than Bill Russell?  I'm not sure he belongs in the top 10.

Top 5 might be debatable.  Top 7 not so much.  Top 10?  Get out of here.

Kareem and Hakeem both had unstoppable shots in terms of their being able (in their respective primes) to get a clean look anytime they wanted.  Kareem generally scored at a significantly higher percentage, though.  He was also more durable, and in my opinion (having watched him only from about 1980 on) an underrated defender.  Hakeem was still a better defender when really focused, and overall a superior rebounder.  If I'm drafting for career impact/achievements or a shot at a sustained dynasty, Kareem is the easy pick.  If I'm going for a single season or a 2-3 year window, I might opt for Hakeem (my favorite player of all time).

Not sure I agree with Hakeem being the better rebounder. Early in his career Kareem was a huge rebounder. I believe he clearly opted for finesse later in his career, partly to be able to be so durable. Which resulted in lower boards but allowed him to play until he was like 76 years old.

in my opinion the top 5 best players ever are jordan, then magic, than bird, kareem then wilt. 6th would be russel 7th would be shaq 8th duncan 9th hakeem and 10th big o

This might get some flack, but I'd build around a model of consistency and take John Stockton

at this point in the first round, I'll take a flyer on Lebron James - he already has some of the best statistical seasons ever in the NBA and if he can get his head on straight could still win multiple titles. A top 5 NBA talent/body.. I can find the clutch gene lower in the draft.

I agree Stockton is too short and way too white for the 1st round. I am interested to see how you build around him.

advanced statistics indicate near parity between the two on the boards.  He definitely was lighter on the boards once Magic showed up... mostly due to the style of play.  Offensive boards didn't come around as much when he was in position to get them.

in my opinion the best PF of all time (depending on what u consider tim duncan) Karl Malones 89-90 season has good ft% for a pf/c and he posted all of these great stats in the 80s and 90s when the nba was at it strongest. also a really good rebounder. hes a decent difender and a decent passer for his position
