I've finally got my response from WiS in my ticket, and I'm now a happy customer. Here it is word for word:

We had been trying to replicate what you managed to do (DL 60 to DL 15) and we simply have not been able to do so and we have not been able to locate another example of this occurring on the main site. We should have let you know we were looking into; we apologize for not updating you during that timeframe.
The development process worked properly, with the DL change causing the lack of recovery.
We have issued your account a $5 credit since you encountered this bug and had to wait on the response.
