Rule V Leg #36 draft thread Topic

I had hoped that everyone would assume Gwynn had been protected and that he'd fall to me here, but once again, the Rule V universe is far too clever to miss anything.  So, I'll go with Yaz instead - Carl Yastrzemski - Boston.

tridentric sitemailed yesterday that he had an appointment today at 1pm.  He said he should be around at his draft time to make his pick.

Dentist is 20 minutes late. Never had the opportunity to use this guy as he's always been protected.

Paul O'Neill. NY Yankees

Yankees are now off the board

Since the Pirates don't get used that often, neither does this player.  We'll see how Pops and Junior get along in the outfield in Seattle.  Willie Stargell - PIT

Players taken so far, in increasing order of the percentage of legs (of the 12 we have records for) in which they were protected (numbers after names are the number of legs the franchise has been used, the number of times protected before round 1, and the number of times taken in round 1):

Ryan Astros 12-0-5
McGwire Cardinals 12-3-9
Valenzuela Dodgers 11-3-4
Yastrzemski Red Sox 12-4-4
O'Neill Yankees 12-4-4
Hershiser Dodgers 11-4-5
Peterson Yankees 12-5-3
Henderson Athletics 12-9-3
Ripken Orioles 9-7-2
Gwynn Padres 10-8-2
Martinez Mets 12-10-2
Biggio Astros 12-11-1

This is the first time Biggio has been unprotected. Not the first time for Gwynn, Ripken, and Mets Pedro. Add A's Rickey to those names and you have all the players taken so far who have been taken in the first round every time they've been left unprotected.

Numbers for Stargell are 6-0-1.

In fact, he's never been protected by any of the 6 Pirates owners -- taken in the second round once third round twice.  I presume he at least played for the Pirates the two times we wasn't protected or selected (Disco Dogs leg 32 and georgedeer leg 28).

But still an AWESOME pick!  I live in Seattle, but Stargell was my favorite player growing up.  I would definitely buy many tickets to see Pops and Junior.
