We're pushing back the draft for the Red Sox league since we don't have enough signed up just yet. More details to come tomorrow.

My work schedule at present is cutting into my wis time. Please give my spot to the next in line. Good luck with the tournament.

The league size has been reduced to 20 teams. We currently have 18 that have joined. Invitations have now been sent to everyone that indicated an interest in this thread (including a couple non-Red Sox fans). Assuming we fill the final two spots today, the live draft will begin at 10 AM EST tomorrow. If the final spots don't fill today, we'll bump the draft back to Friday at 10 AM.

The draft format will remain the same, with 15 minutes per selection. However, with the smaller league size, it will be shortened in duration by a few days.

The league is full and the draft is officially scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday, April 7) at 10 AM EST! The draft order was selected randomly. Congrats to jongdavis for landing the No. 1 pick. He'll kick things off tomorrow, with the second pick following 15 minutes later. Be sure to visit the draft center to learn when your picks will occur and plan accordingly. While it's best to make a selection during your 15-minute window, you can make your pick any time after that if you miss a time slot.

After you make a pick, please use this thread to share your analysis for an upcoming FOXSports.com article. Include the player, draft position and a one or two-sentence summary of your pick. Your summary could discuss:
  • The stats-based reasoning for your selection
  • Your personal connection to the player
  • Why the player is a steal at his draft slot
  • The player you were hoping to draft that was taken just before
  • The other players you considered drafting in that slot
We're especially interested in your analysis for early picks, but share throughout the draft whenever you get the chance! Our first article about the league will focus on the first round or first few rounds of the draft. We want to include your commentary, so please provide some!

Please tell me that you'll soon be offering drafts similar to this one for the (1) Yankees, (2) Cardinals, (3) Giants, and (4) any other team you see fit?

Crazy thing is I believe he had somewhat of a hard time filling this one!! Can't believe it had to be dropped to 20 teams

I might post my commentary on a couple round delay so as not to give away strategies :)

thejuice6 - The goal is to roll this format out to other teams, and the ones you mentioned would definitely be at the top of the list. We're learning as we go, so it will be a little easier to implement the next time around.

jfranco77 - Sounds like a smart move. The current plan is to focus on the first round for the initial article, which we'd like to publish Friday afternoon. So if you can share some thoughts for your first pick without giving away too much, that would be great.

Round 1, Pick 5: 1941 Ted Williams - Teddy Ballgame is off the board! The early run on pitching almost talked us into following suit, but a .406 batting average is too good to pass up.

I was surprised to see Wood go 3rd, but no surprise about Pedro and Cy going 1 and 2, with this being a draft from 1 franchise only the top tier of SP is really thin which is why I had to go with Dutch, he's one of my favorite SB pitchers anyway, by the #'s his 1914 season is the best by lefty SP in Sox history which is great considering all the great lefty hitters they've had through the years that we'll be seeing. Very happy with the pick, he was 3rd on my board so getting him with the 4th pick was a nice start to the draft.

EDIT : Didn't think there were clones...although I'm still happy with the pick I would have gone with Cy's 1905 season because of the IP and low HR's. Feeling pretty ignorant right about now!!

Round 1, Pick 6: 1905 Cy Young - I would've taken this season of Young with the first pick in the draft and am pleasantly surprised he fell to me at sixth. Almost as many IP as two Pedro Martinez's but with a much lower HR/9 and the second-best raw WHIP of any SP in the draft. He will be a strong contender for the league's Cy Young Award if we can get him some wins.

Round 1, Pick 9: 1904 Cy Young. I too am very happy to get 400 innings with under a 1 WHIP and ERC under 2 at this draft pick. Iv'e never used this version of Young, but I think he will do very well in this league. I almost went with the Babe (P) just to get a good lefty against all the Ted's, Yaz, Papi, Speaker and Lynn's, but hope to get one in the next couple picks.

For your first pick in the draft you really have to go with the best players available whether your stacking up on pitching or offense. Young, Pedro, Williams were the most selections in round 1. Later on I hope to pickup players that I grew up watching like Dewey, Yaz, Rice, Lynn, Fisk and even the Rem Dog, but not the Hawk. Playing in Fenway I'll look heavy on players with a high 2b/100 abs.

Are the players being removed from the draft list as they are being drafted?
