Religion is the root of all morality.
Empathy is the root of all morality.
So, you're saying that the majority of the civilizations throughout history didn't make their laws based on their religion and their moral code wasn't dictated by their religion?
What I’m saying is that humans have a natural sense of morality that would exist with or without religion.
And that claim is based on . . . ?
If morality required religion, children would be amoral until they were taught religion. And that’s not the case.
You've shown over and over in these forums that you're pretty dumb, so the fact that you're dumb again here should be no surprise to anybody.

Pretty much every human culture around the planet started with a primitive belief in some sort of higher being, a god/God or gods, that guided or influenced their lives. In most cases, as the cultures matured, those primitive beliefs formalized into some sort of organized religion. Each of those religions codified the laws of their God/gods into a set of "laws" or framework for acceptable or expected behavior, i.e. morals.

I know that you disdain organized religion. Whatever, I really don't care. But you can't deny that religion (or belief in some higher power) and morality have been intertwined since primitive man evolved beyond the ape. And that these beliefs have become ingrained in our genes.

Well, maybe you can deny it. Because you're dumb.
You’re confusing correlation with causation.

Yes, religioun has been around for a very, very long time. But there was a time when homosapiens existed prior to the concept of god/gods/religion. Unless you think those early humans were completely devoid of any sense of right and wrong, the morality came first. From that came religion.

And AGAIN, the idea that a decline in religion has caused a decline in morality is just stupid. There is no evidence of a decline in morality.

there is a decline in religion because people are not believing in the bibles...more and more people think they are myths.
thus, there is a decline in standard religions...it is a growing trend...gallup has been doing a lot of polling over past 20 years.
people are leaving religion and seeking God.

pop a top for god is my motto

Then it's settled. Global warming is a religion.

Organized religion has added a **** TON of immorality to this world.

there's no denying that either.
Nope. People have twisted doctrines to fit their agendas in the name of religion. The religion didn't add it. Evil people did.
I was going to thank strikeout for correcting b_l, but at the last second noticed it wasn't b_l who posted the original garbage. I guess it's no longer safe to assume everything that stupid comes from b_l.
Well, no, because we are ALL BL, remember?

people, in general need religion because they fear death and are not ethical or moral enough to be that way without the promise of heaven or the threat of hell.......think about it.
give me moral people who dont believe in hell or think about heaven and believe that any good and moral person with any or no religious beliefs can go to heaven if there is one and ill give you the best and smartest group of people.

thats because the religions themselves are flawed and people follow them for the wrong reasons.
it is possible to have better religions.

Also, there’s no way to separate “people” and “religion” as if religion is it’s own thing and not a societal construct.

If someone is arguing that decline in religion has caused a decline in morality, they’re going to have to deal with the counter-argument that a shitload of catholic priests sexually abused children for decades and the church, from the top down, knew about it and helped cover it up.

a decline in religion is a sign of a more moral and ethical society.
the united states is a haven for fake christians.
a decline means people are starting to think for themseves without believe it or else hanging over their heads.
what i have said in my last few posts are the root of it all.....you cant talk about religion without first understanding why religion in the first place...why do people believe in the old religions and why are people moving away from them.
the catholic church has caused a lot of catholics to reconsider more than just catholicism...it has also caused a lot to reconsider the deity of jesus and the believability of the old testament......thats the real truth you guys should be realizing.

This is true. IN GENERAL. Give me the few true believers of the one true religion of faith in salvation by grace through blood and I'll give you the best and smartest group of people.

Man made global climate change got here just a little too late.
