Yeah, lots of folks. It is in the critical news thread.

Didn’t know the ratings were getting updated today. I was under the impression we were still a couple weeks away.

I have now been asked a few times about my knowledge of the defensive updates as well as how that affected my pick selections. Here is the breakdown:

I did know that the updates were happening at some point. It was unclear as to when, and admin had given no prior indication that it would be anytime soon.

At the time of my first selection, I had no idea any updates were happening in the near future. I selected Dwight independently of any knowledge that he would get 10 extra defense on three teams.

Before my second selection, I was notified that the updates were ready, however I was told it would still be a few weeks away. November 16th was the target date, but I was told it would probably be longer than that. As my second pick approached, I had three guys I was targeting who were all in a tier above Russell. All three of them went. My next tier included Russell independent of any defensive bump. Sure, I knew that it was possible Russell would get boosted in time, but I thought it was unlikely. It might have impacted my selection process a little, but not much. His average draft position in the last three drafts is 45.67. I selected him 44th. This would be a different conversation if I had drafted him 30th or so.

AK47 was not impacted by the defensive updates at all.

Given:
- the murkiness of the implementation date
- the fact that WiS is never really predictive on their dates for anything
- the fact that no one was drafted different than their ADP
- no one was fully clear on what was changing (or at least I wasn't)

I don't think I can make a case for any shenanigans here... and I love making a case for shenanigans.

I got caught off guard with the DPOY update. I think it is cool and makes sense but it is an unexpected curveball. But I love the changes to the old guys. If we can get the shooting % adjustment we have requested, then the old guys are going to kick so much *** down the road. I suspect that is a bigger change though.

I would have loved to see this coupled with an overall reduction of the defense of the non-award winners. It creates a tilted distribution.

Wow I had no idea!
my database of players is not as valuable anymore. Very interesting.

but excited to see Russell at 100

Yeah, it is a pain. I was keeping the old one together with duct tape but started writing a tool to build a new one today.

Thank you for the explanation, Ben. I think what you say makes sense.

The only thing I'll say is that it may have been a good idea to inform the league about the fact that the defensive changes were possibly imminent. If the group had known that they were, we may have made the collective decision to delay the draft until the changes were implemented, rather than having the possibility of them coming in mid-draft. We may also have made the decision to move forward given the lack of clarity about when the changes would happen. But at least that way everyone would have been able to factor in the possibility that Russell and others would receive a boost.

But that notwithstanding, I don't have any problem with what happened and am glad the changes got made.

People are going to be suspicious of you, Ben. It is what it is.
