Well, except for the part where you get to grab one of the best possible seasons in franchise history.

Of course, it all depends on where the drop-off is. I'm sure whoever drew pick #1 for the Yankees would rather have pick #1 than pick #16. Not sure if that's true with pick #2 vs pick #15 or pick #3 vs pick #14 or where the cutoff is.

If you can get a season with five usable pieces in round 1, four usable pieces in round 2, three usable pieces each in rounds 3-4, then the fifth round pick only needs 1 or 2. Every franchise is different.

True, but it's more the gap, especially without a snake between Rounds 2 and 3. Picks 1, 32 and 48 vs picks 16, 17 and 33. I feel like the sweet spot for most franchises will be picks 5-8 in the first round.
