Montreal Spectres Fan Club 1990- Topic

Game 62: Carlos Delgado doubles, homers, and drives in three runs as the Spectres beat New York 11-3 in the series opener. Jake Westbrook gets another three-inning save, allowing no runs.

Game 63: Melvin Mora drives in five and Tomo Ohka pitches into the ninth as the Spectres win 7-3. Ohka improves to 6-5 on the season.

Game 64: Montreal falls behind 4-0 in the first but rallies to win, 9-7, as Carlos Delgado hits a bases-loaded double in the ninth. Eddie Guardado pitches a scoreless bottom half for his 11th save. The Spectres are back to .500 at 32-32 after a 6-3 divisional stretch.

A quick interleague set with Boston (37-27) is next on the schedule.

Game 65: Ken Griffey Jr. hits his fourth home run but the Spectres strike out nine times over the final three innings (14 for the game) and drop a one-run decision to the Brawn, 4-3.

Game 66: Hosting the Brawn proves no more profitable. Montreal puts up five runs off Barry Zito, one of Zito's worse outings this season, but the Spectre pitching is no better. Montreal loses a second consecutive one-run game to Boston, 6-5.

The Spectres head to St. Louis to face the Cthulu.

Game 67: Montreal continues its recent strikeout spree, whiffing 13 times against seven St. Louis pitchers, and drop the opener 9-7. Chris Woodward drives home four runs for the Cthulu with only one hit.

Game 68: Geoff Jenkins hits a pinch-hit three-run homer in the eighth, snapping a 1-1 tie, and the Spectres hold on for a 4-1 win.

Game 69: Kelvim Escobar takes another beating (6.83 ERA on the season) and the Spectres give Greg Maddux another victory (now 4-8, with two wins against the Spectres) as St. Louis wins the series finale 10-3.

Montreal will host San Diego next.

Game 70: San Diego scores seven times in the first two innings off Jeremy Bonderman, three of them unearned, and then trades punches with Montreal the rest of the night to take the series opener, 13-8.

Game 71: Montreal evens the series with a 5-4 win when Eddie Guardado strands a man on second to earn the save.

Game 72: San Diego scores five in the first off Aaron Cook, adds two more in the second, and rolls to a 10-2 victory.

Montreal will travel to their house of horrors, Wrigley Field, to face the Bootleggers next.

Game 73: Both teams get 11 hits in the opener, but Chicago comes away with the win, 4-1. Derek Lowe notches his 10th victory of the season.

Game 74: When you hear the Spectres were on the wrong end of an 18-3 score, it will not surprise you to learn that Kelvim Escobar started the game.

Game 75: Montreal bounces back to win the series finale 9-3, getting a grand slam from Geoff Jenkins to cap a 7-run second inning.

The Spectres return home to face hated Frisco.

Game 76: Joe Kennedy shuts down the Niners for six innings and the Spectres hit three home runs to take the opener 6-1.

Game 77: Frisco clubs Aaron Cook and Jim Brower around and gets four scoreless innings from their pen in relief of CC Sabathia to beat the Spectres 6-3 and even the series.

Game 78: The hated 69ers win the series with a 7-5 win behind Kerry Wood (9-2). Tomo Ohka takes the loss but drives in two of Montreal's runs.

The Spectres will finish the first half at Milwaukee.

Game 79: Mark Mulder pitches eight shutout innings to run his record to 8-2 as the Krauts blank the Spectres 7-0.

Game 80: Carl Crawford doubles twice and drives in four as the Spectres outslug the Krauts 10-7, despite being outhit 15-10. Milwaukee pitchers combine to walk 14 batters, including Mark Bellhorn four times.

Game 81: Montreal wins another 10-7 decision, scoring five times in the eighth on three home runs to rally for the victory.

Montreal finishes the first half at 38-43, only three games out of the division lead.

Montreal places only one player on the NL All Star team, 2b Bret Boone, who is hitting .319/.410/.581 and leads the club with 75 RBI.

Montreal will start the second half of the season at home against Houston.

Game 82: Wes Freaking Helms hits an inside-the-park grand slam in the fifth; the Spectres never recover and drop a 6-5 decision against the Lone Stars.

Game 83: Monitreal loses another one-run decision, 5-4 to Houston in 11 innings, as Houston scores the game-winner on Angel Berroa's throwing error. All three Spectre batters in the bottom half ground out against Scott Shields.

Game 84: Montreal's second half starts poorly, as they drop the finale to Houston 7-3 and are swept by the Lone Stars. Kelvim Escobar allows six runs before leaving in the second. Ballgame.

Interleague sets with Oakland, Seattle and Washington are next.

Game 85: The visiting Amoeba score in every run but the sixth, collecting 22 hits on the way to a convincing 15-8 win. Jeremy Bonderman takes the loss and falls to 7-4.

Game 86: Three Montreal errors lead to five unearned runs, and the Spectres' ninth-inning rally falls one run short as the Amoeba wins 7-6.

Game 87: A cross-country trip from Oakland to Washington does little for the Spectres' performance and they lose their sixth straight game to start the second half, 7-4 to the Senators.

Game 88: The Spectres blow a 5-4 lead in the final two innings, losing 11-5, their seventh straight defeat. Ugly.

Game 89: The skid extends to eight straight as the Spectres turn 17 baserunners into only three runs in a 4-3 loss to Seattle.

Game 90: Seattle leaves no doubt in this one, banging out 20 hits in a 13-5 win.

The Spectres take their nine-game skid to Cincinnati.

Game 91: The Spectres lose to Ben Sheets again, though this one is closer, 7-5, Montreal's 10th straight loss to start the second half.

Game 92: Eddie Guardado suffers his second blown save of the season as the Stingers rally for three in the ninth to take a 9-7 win over Montreal.

Game 93: I guess we've stopped trying now. Four Spectre pitchers allow 20 hits in a 17-6 blowout. L12

Off to San Diego we go.

Game 94: Carlos Delgado hits a two-run homer in the first, and Montreal takes a 2-1 lead into the sixth, but things deteriorate rapidly from there and the Conquistadors rally for an 8-2 win, Montreal's 13th straight loss.

Game 95: THE STREAK IS OVER!!!! Geoff Jenkins hits a three-run homer to cap a four-run fifth and the Spectres hang on for a 7-5 win. Jeremy Bonderman gets the win, his eighth of the season.

Game 96: The winning streak is short-lived. Geoff Jenkins hits another three-run homer, but the Conquistadors have more firepower today and win the series finale 9-7.

The Spectres host St. Louis next.

Game 97: Montreal scores seven runs for the third straight game but loses for the second time in those three contests; five straight St. Louis hits to open the ninth break a 7-7 tied and the Cthulu walk away with an 11-7 win.

Game 98: Carl Crawford doubles and homers, driving in three runs, and Tomo Ohka actually looks like a major league pitcher as the Spectres beat Greg Maddux 6-2.

Game 99: Crazy but true; Montreal beats Maddux and Glavine on consecutive days, winning the series finale 5-4. Kelvim Escobar is far from stellar but picks up his fifth win of the season.

It's off to LA next to face the Looters.

Game 100: Randy Johnson strikes out 11 Spectres in 6.2 innings of work, and LA shuts out Montreal 5-0.

Game 101: The Spectres strike out 11 times and walk none, losing 5-3 to the Looters. Michael Cuddyer hits his first home run.

Game 102: Aaron Cook leaves in the first having surrendered four runs, but the Spectres eventually take an 8-7 lead. Jim Brower gives it up in the eighth, his fourth blown save, and the Looters outlast the Spectres, winning 9-8 in the 14th off Brooks Kieschnick.

The Spectres return home to face Chicago.
