You didn't answer the question. Was the economy better in 2017 than it was in 2010?
Exactly. Obama righted the ship after the bush disaster

Obama's record when he left office:

50M people on food stamps (at 32M when he took office)

2% GDP growth per year (rough average)

National debt was at $26,000 per person under Bush, it was at $52,000 per person under Obama (the same Obama that said it was unpatriotic to take out a credit card in the name of the American people)
Obama's first fiscal year was 2010. Was the economy better in 2017 than it was in 2010?

Not really. GDP growth rate in 2010 was 2.5%. In 2016 it was 1.5%. We are also heading towards another housing bust due to Obama's policies. He pushed banks to start loaning to people that can't pay it back again.

For the wealthy, yes. For the additional 20 million or so on food stamps, no.

It's easy to look good when the baseline (starting point) is so bad. I wouldn't brag about that.

You can't say "well he got elected right at the start of a horrible recession" and then also blame him for an increase in food stamp usage. They go hand in hand.

Hmmm, I wonder if there is more to evaluating the economy than just looking at base GDP growth?

Clinton averaged over 4% growth starting with a poor baseline. Reagan averaged over 4% percent starting with a poor baseline. Obama averaged 2% starting with a poor baseline.

Yes I can. You asked if the economy was better in 2017 than 2010. It's all relative. Those on food stamps today that weren't in 2010 probably don't think it is.

I agree. Bush started this mess. You can throw out Obama's first term numbers, but we have had other recessions and much better recoveries. The problem is, Obama's numbers never got any better. Our economy was stagnant at best with him.

Growth was absolutely too slow. A jobs program would have helped. More stimulus spending would have helped. Not going through with the sequestration would have helped.

Those things are, at least partly, on Obama.

But the idea that Obama was a disaster and Trump isn't, is ridiculous.

Trump may turn out to be a disaster. It's too early to tell. My problem is that we don't know what effects his policies will have. We know that Obama failed. There is plenty of data to prove it. Trump hasn't done anything to fail yet, which may be a failure in itself.
