Montreal Spectres Fan Club 1990- Topic

Game 25: Eddie Guardado chokes up a two-run lead in the ninth inning but the Spectres win it in 11, 5-4, when Khalil Greene follows Ken Griffey Jr.'s two-out single with an RBI double, his second two-bagger of the game.

Game 26: Montreal wins another 5-4 decision, rallying for four runs in the bottom of the ninth to steal a game from New York. Two batters are walked in before Jamie Burke wins it with a single to right.

Game 27: New York takes a 4-0 lead in the first inning off Kelvim Escobar and extends it to 6-0 later, but the Spectres battle back and take their third straight game, beating the Mad Men 10-6. Escobar lasts long enough to get the win, improving to 5-0.

Game 28: Jeremy Bonderman produces a quality start, but the Mad Men salvage the series finale, beating Montreal 7-1 as the Spectres are handcuffed by Jason Jennings all day.

More interleague play next with series against Kansas City and Orange County.

Game 29: The visiting Blue Devils get a rude welcome as Carlos Delgado and Khalil Greene each hit three-run homers in the first three innings. The Spectre bullpen throws three scoreless frames and Montreal wins 6-3.

Game 30: KC gets revenge in their park as Curt Schilling strikes out 12 batters and Miguel Tejada has four hits in a 7-1 Blue Devil win.

Game 31: Jake Westbrook scatters eight hits over eight innings for his sixth win as Montreal beats the Choppers 5-1. Jayson Werth hits his first home run of the season.

Game 32: Michael Cuddyer drives in four and Kelvim Escobar strikes out 13 batters in a complete game victory as Montreal sweeps the OC with a 7-2 decision.

The Spectres head to San Diego to face the NL West leaders (20-12).

Game 33: Montreal loses a tough one, rallying to send the game to extras but losing 5-4 in the 10th on Yadier Molina's RBI double. Jason Frasor takes the loss after Salomon Torres and Jim Brower had thrown two scoreless innings each.

Game 34: Carlos Delgado's 11th home run is a second-inning grand slam, and Joe Kennedy cruises through seven innings as the Spectres even the series with a 10-2 win.

Game 35: Edgardo Alfonzo gives the Spectres a 4-3 lead with his two-run, pinch-hit double in the eighth, and Montreal holds on for a 5-3 win.

Interleague sets with Oakland and Seattle are next.

Game 36: Oakland comes to town and deals Jake Westbrook his first loss, 4-1, as Steve Trachsel allows only three hits in 8.2 innings and Albert Pujols reaches base five times.

Game 37: Melvin Mora hits a three-run, inside-the-park home run to cap a four-run first, and Kelvim Escobar tosses eight shutout innings (allowing only two hits) as the Spectres shut out the Amoeba 6-0.

Game 38: Jeremy Bonderman strikes out nine batters in six innings of work but still takes his fifth loss as the Emeralds limit Montreal to seven singles in an 8-3 victory.

Game 39: Joe Kennedy goes seven innings and Jamie Burke has three hits with two RBI as the Spectres beat Seattle 4-1.

We head home to face the Looters.

Game 40: The Spectres manage to choke up an 8-3 lead in the ninth when Eddie Guardado allows a grand slam to Vladimir Guerrero, but Montreal wins it in the bottom half; Ramon Hernandez' two-out single is followed by a pinch-hit double from Khalil Greene, which scores the winning run in a 9-8 victory.

Game 41: Carlos Delgado and Mark Bellhorn drive in two runs each in the seventh to erase a 3-2 deficit and the bullpen holds on for a 6-3 win over the Looters.

Game 42: Kelvim Escobar outduels Randy Johnson, running his record to 8-0, as the Spectres topple the Looters 5-3. Eddie Guardado pitches a scoreless ninth inning for his 10th save.

The Spectres head to Milwaukee to take on the Gray Bears, who lead the Central at 25-17.

Game 43: Carlos Beltran destroys the Spectres, hitting a solo homer off Eddie Guardado in the ninth to tie the score and then winning it in the 10th with a three-run shot off Trever Miller. Milwaukee wins, 11-8.

Game 44: Montreal does nothing against Brett Tomko, who throws seven 1-hit innings, but ties the game in the top of the ninth with two rujns, both scoring with two out. Milwaukee wins it, though, scoring in the bottom of the ninth with three singles and a walk.

Game 45: Montreal hits three solo home runs and avoids a sweep, getting five solid innings out of Jimmy Gobble and spotless work from the bullpen for a 3-1 win.

The Spectres return home to face Chicago.

Game 46: Chicago takes full advantage of four Spectre errors and gets good pitching from their bullpen as they open the series with a 12-2 blowout of Montreal.

Game 47: Kelvim Escobar continues to roll, pitching eight 7-hit innings to run his record to 9-0 with a 4-1 win over the Bootleggers.

Game 48: Melvin Mora homers for the second straight day and Edgardo Alfonzo snaps a 2-2 tie with a leadoff homer in the eighth as the Spectres edge Chicago 3-2.

Interleague sets with Atlanta and Baltimore are next.

Game 49: The Peach Pies hit consecutive homers off Eddie Guardado in the top of the ninth to erase a 4-3 Spectre lead; Montreal manages only three weak groundouts in the bottom of the inning and drop a 5-4 game.

Game 50: Atlanta sweeps the Spectres, knocking Jimmy Gobble out of the game in the fourth and getting good clutch pitching from Al Leiter, who scatters 10 hits in seven innings; Peach Pies win 9-4.

Game 51: Mark Bellhorn's three-run homer in the eighth sends the game to extras, and the Spectres take the lead in the 11th on Melvin Mora's single, but Eddie Guardado has another forgettable performance, choking up two runs in the bottom half (though Trever Miller surrenders the winning hit) as the Aureoles rally for a 10-9 win.

Game 52: Matt Clement goes only three innings for Baltimore but the Aureole bullpen throws six scoreless innings and Kelvim Escobar takes his first loss of the season as Montreal drops a 2-1 decision, their fourth straight loss.

The hated Niners are in town next.

Game 53: Jeremy Bonderman takes another beating (seven runs in 2-plus innings), sending his ERA to 8.74, and the Spectre bullpen collapses late as the Niners take the opener 11-8, scoring three in the ninth. Montreal barely even makes contact off Dave Burba in the final inning.

Game 54: Frisco scores five times in the first inning but the Spectres battle back all day long and limit the Niners to one run over the final eight innings, scoring a 9-6 win to even the series.

Game 55: Montreal cannot keep Frisco off the board and loses their seventh of eight games, 9-5, as AJ Pierzynski drives in four runs with four hits. Jimmy Gobble has another horrible outing and the bullpen matches it.

Divisional play is back, possibly just in time. Montreal starts this round with a trip to Philadelphia, which trails the division at 15-40.

Game 56: Melvin Mora doubles, homers, and drives in five runs and the Spectres outhit Philly 16-12 on the way to an 11-4 win. Jake Westbrook goes seven innings for the win, improving to 7-2.

Game 57: Ramon Hernandez hits two homers, Angel Berroa hits his first of the season, and Jeremy Bonderman is strong for seven innings as the Spectres beat Philly 7-1.

Game 58: Jimmy Gobble throws five scoreless innings and the Spectres collect 14 hits as they beat the McPolyes 5-2 to sweep the series. Gobble improves to 3-4.

Montreal returns home to face Pittsburgh, currently second in the divison though 10 games back.

Game 59: Montreal's Jason Frasor turns a close game into a blowout, surrendering six of Pittsburgh's EIGHT ninth-inning runs, which extends a 3-2 Melon lead to 11-2, which is the final score when the Spectres fail to score in the bottom half.

Game 60: Eddie Guardado blows another lead, as Pittsburgh's Bill Hall drives home the tying run in the ninth, but Melvin Mora saves the day with a homer in the bottom half to give Montreal a 5-4 win.

Game 61: Geoff Jenkins and Ken Griffey Jr. each homer and drive in three runs, and Jake Westbrook is unscored on until the ninth, as the Spectres take the series with a 6-2 win in the finale.

The Spectres are off to Shea to face the Madmen.

Game 62: Jayson Werth homers, reaches base four times, and scores three as the Spectres beat New York 9-5 in the series opener.

Game 63: New York's bullpen throws 3.1 scoreless innings and the Spectre relief corps is wholly ineffective as the Mad Men rally for an 8-7 win to tie the series.

Game 64: Montreal manages only five hits off Bronson Arroyo and wastes a decent outing by Joe Kennedy, losing the series to New York as the Madmen eke out a 2-1 win in the finale.

Montreal still leads the division by 10 games, luckily. Our annual home-and-home with Boston is next.

Game 65: The Spectre bats remain cold, shut down by Boston starter Jason Schmidt as the Brawn shut out Montreal 2-0 at Fenway.

Game 66: Montreal holds a 1-0 lead over Pedro Martinez after seven, but Jake Westbrook tires in the eighth; the Brawn score four times in that frame and add another in the ninth for a 5-1 win and a season sweep of the Spectres.

Having lost four straight, the Spectres head to St. Louis to face the Cthulu.
