Flames Thread: Scoring is overrated Topic

at least once kipper and iggy are done, we won't have much choice about what we do.  we finish near the bottom of the league and rebuild.  :>

I dont understand why everybody always wants to rebuild and just keep developing prospects... we havent won a cup since 89.. its time to win something... we got some rooks in our opening day lineup... though I am not expecting much from Sutter...

Otherwise your just the Vancouver canucks.. just keep developing and churning players over... and over.. without ever winning anything... yes I know they have apparently been award the Stanley cup this season, but I don't buy it

another stellar start to the season.  (note the sarcasm)  though after actually having a good start to the season last year we tanked it, so maybe it's better to get back to the bad starts.  :>

EBERLE!!!.........Battle of Alberta........ "has been"...... WON......

And EBERLE is the only ALBERTA PLAYER who is not a "HASBEEN"...Jokinen??? Tanguay???...........Calgary should WEEP!!!

Yes, we're off in fine form.  I'm sure Sutter et al are stupid enough to find enough wins to finish in 20th place instead of 30th place too.

It's not really about 'rebuilding' it's about giving these young prospects a DECENT chance to become steady NHL calibre players.  Sutter doesn't do that..unless they succeed right away and continue that way no problem, the minute there is a down....back to the minors or to the press box with you.  Doing things that way... no wonder their prospects struggle!!!

Also, it's not like bringing in retread after retread after retread has exactly brought the team to the top of Western Conference...After awhile you'd think they'd take the hint...what we are doing isn't working maybe it's time to try a DIFFERENT approach... But nope they (I should say Sutter) keep doing the same dumb things season after season after season... When you consider ALL the first round picks the Flames have had over the last decade..how many of them were given a decent shot?  I can think of only 1...that's Dion all the rest......

Yep a great start the Calgary Retreads.. get shut out by the worst team from last season, also a team they didn't lose to last season either.  Oh yea I can see how this bringing the vets is really working....
10/8/2010 9:09 AM
Well our prospects looked like crap last night, while the Oilers' shined.. just one game, but I have a feeling there will be more like this..

and in total agreement about the veterans Sutter has chosen... and it was even more horrible when Morrison was brought in... I would blame the lack of developing of prospects more on the lack of being able to scout than development... Fata, Kobasew to name a couple... Irving and Krahn obviously got buried cause of Kipper but Krahn has done nothing elsewhere... hell none of our prospects have done anything anywhere else either... including Phiona who will fail
10/8/2010 10:16 AM

Yep instead of giving Backlund a shot at #2 line, he goes out and gets another Retread!!  Kobasew was never really given a chance here..played on the #4 line like what he did with Boyd??  I'm not saying Kobasew would be a great player BUT he was either in the press box or on the fourth line & penalty kill etc etc   Never given a chance to be an offensive player...  This is something that can be said about practically every single forward prospect they have brought up for the last decade.  I'd love to here of one that Sutter gave a decent shot to?  Sutter ALWAYS sticks them to fourth line and then every one wonders why they don't produce.  He'd rather go out and get a vet ... no matter how much over priced he is.

MORRISON is just more proof of what I've been saying all along

As I said before...time to kick Sutter out, he's F'd up this team SO MUCH.....

Agreed... D. Sutter is a douche

Yeah, when make the playoffs 90% of the time, which is the Canucks unfortunate history, you can't get the star prospects like Pittsburgh and Chicago (when Pittsburgh or Chicago suck, nobody notices or cares)  and Edmonton and Calgary (See next year's draft, I mean shutout and punched out by a junior team).
10/8/2010 1:16 PM
well, yes we were shutout by a team that finished last overall last year, but a couple of points to make on that:

1)  it was only one game.  new jersey devils beat the oilers 7-2 back when they were the worst team in the league and the oil was the best team in history.
2)  edmonton does have a great goaltender.
3)  eberle is a great player.  hall is supposed to be as well.  edmonton isn't the same team that finished last overall last year.

but of course i'm not saying the flames are gonna turn around and win sixty games.  i'm just saying look at last year.  we totally schooled the canucks to start the season in back to back wins.  and then lost nine in a row later in the season.  we need to wait fifteen to twenty games into the season before we decide who has a good team and who doesn't.  chicago lost their opener as well.  almost lost in regulation, but ended up losing in OT.  Toronto even won their opening game.  does that mean anything?  :>
10/8/2010 5:45 PM
Toronto winning means Nickhead is gonna owe me $50, ill be a nice guy and take $40 right now Nickhead,if you wanna call it off?
10/8/2010 5:50 PM
Yea g-m, Khabibulin has always owned the Retreads (my new name for the Flames)... still not scoring a goal? Especially when the Oiler biggest weakness is their blue line?? That is sad
