Could it be he's laying the groundwork for his "You can't charge me with anything, I'm senile" defense for when Mueller comes after him? In that Vanity Fair article I linked one of his aides said it was wise of Trump to decline a 60 Minutes appearance because he's "lost a step" and the White House doesn't want him doing adversarial interviews anymore. Who knows if it's true or not (hard to tell when dumb guys "lose a step"), but it could be a handy tool for his lawyers.
