No one will ever get equal opportunity. Just not how the world works. Nepotism is alive and well. But I agree that people should at least get opportunities and not be left out in the cold. Plus equality is subjective. There are some jobs I will never get an interview for because I don't have the pedigree. But I can find others. Keep up the good work and don't rely on the useless Government. I encourage you to work with local businesses and truck driving schools. Trucks still account for about 80% of goods deliveries in the US. The jobs pay great! Excellent benefits too.

I meant ending redlining once and for all and equalizing school funding.
Do you have charter schools in KS?
They seem to be working well here in GA for minorities. It gives them basically a private school atmosphere for free where they can learn without distraction and it puts them in an environment where they have pupils are equally as motivated.

Most public school advocates campaigned against it when it was going up for vote, but it appears that there fears were unwarranted.

Tang, you really need to learn what opportunity is. That student who dropped out to support his family made a choice. He had the opportunity to get a diploma and go to college. He made a choice not to. Please learn that everything that happens in life is a product of a choice. It will really make you a more effective person.
Fine. I concede. Most everyone has opportunity. You agree that equal opportunity does not exist?
No, I don't agree with that. Name one opportunity that whites have, that minorities don't. You and B_L have yet to name one.
LOL, pull your head out of the sand. Just because it "seems" like people have equal opportunities, doesn't in fact mean they do.

When the across the street neighbors from my grandparents were selling their house back in the late 70's, they showed it to a black family. Right after they showed it to the family, Mr. Parker rolled around to the neighbors telling them not to worry, there's no way he would sell it to the negros. In a perfect world, yes everyone as the same opportunities, but this is the real world, not the perfect world.
We don't live in the 70's. That was almost 50 years ago. That's the problem we're running into. The left keeps using arguments from the 60's and 70's. Times have changed. Are minorities still effected by those decades? Only if they allow themselves to be effected. The opportunities are more than there to live a productive, fruitful life.

Taint, B_L, and Tang have yet to name opportunity that whites have that minorities don't.
so it's your take that situations like this still don't occur in this day and age? cmon man, you're smarter than that.
I never said that they don't exist. I signed a pitcher out of a JuCo in Alabama. He said that in that town, there were like 3% blacks because the old timers there refused to sell property to blacks. This doesn't mean that there are plenty of prosperous areas they could move to and live peacefully and prosperously. Honestly, why would they want to move to a place like that.
THIS!!
Yes, if people in a neighborhood won't sell you a house, or a restaurant won't serve you, why would you want to live there or eat there? Just go somewhere else that won't discriminate. Well, that's true, but why should you have to?

I gotcha. I will recommend if comes up for vote, check yes. Obviously, do your own research, but it is really benefiting minority youth in GA.

So are you for fair school funding or nah?
1/16/2018 11:19 PM
I'm not against it, but I don't think added funds would have the impact that you think they do. I have worked at a "poor" school. They still had sufficient funds. More funding would allow for smaller class sizes, which would definitely have a positive impact. I'm not sure better facilities would have a significant impact. Students either want to learn or they don't. If someone tells you that they can't study because the school is crappy, they are making an excuse and have no ambition to study anyways. Funding is not a driving force of success. As CCCP says, it's about the parenting. Teachers hands are tied with kids who don't have a good home life. When "babies" are having babies, it is a bad situation.

You mentioned previously that more school funding would allow for better meals, but the meals are the same in public school whether in a prosperous or poor area. I have worked in both.

Honestly, I think a renaissance system would be much more effective.

I think I have addressed most of your concerns with lack of funding, but please feel free to add input.

I'm telling you, government can't fix poverty issues. This is going to have to come through proactivity in the individual communities. This is not a race issue. I live in a poor white community. It has the same issues as a poor black or Hispanic community. Poor financial choices are very apparent. Why do you think you don't see check cashing or title pawn places in wealthy neighborhoods?
1/17/2018 12:30 AM
Why is it so difficult for the LEFT to understand that people who cannot afford to have kids should not be having them? Boggles my mind.

Better teachers, mental health services, etc are big things. I somewhat agree on the facilities part, although it has been proven to have an impact. More resources and learning opportunities is a really good thing. Some schools don't even have textbooks. School programs like art and languages also get cut with less funding.

I have been suggesting programs like Circles of Hope this whole time.
