This has long been something that has bothered me about the Flames.  It seems to be a regular feature of the Sutter era.  Not sure what the logic is.  Back in the day when you had a guy like Gilmour taking the draw and MacInnis back on the point I could possibly see the logic to it.  Not now.

 I think the Flames suffer from the same disease as the Canucks, we put too much stock into goaltending,its overated ,both teams can dump their high priced anchors and get decent  goaltenders for half the price and upgrade else where..

Yea..they over play the #1 too.  So even IF they make the playoffs, he's burnt out.  If I remember correctly back when the Retreads did make a run at the cup several years ago.. Kipper was injured and missed about 6 weeks.  So when the post season came..he had not played 70+ games that season and he was great.  Now every coach since will not trust a backup....  Another part of the 'pressure to win' thing.  Their prospect goalies don't get a chance at NHL experience (AHL is good but ...).  They do have 2 in farm right now.. and they got WHO to be their back up this season....

I like Karlsson, he looked good in preseason... I guess we find out tonight how he is... going to have to stand on his head.. more than one goal its a loss

Kipper was good last night, but since he didnt stand on his head we lost... more pathetic offence... dump the puck in, then watch as the other team skates it out... no forecheck whatsoever.

I think all the teams are starting to look at this as the best option.  Unfortunately for us however, the western Canadian teams, for whatever reason, always seem to be the last ones to catch on.  Very frustrating.

well, kipper's salary isn't as bad as it could be.  he is making $7M this year, but it drops to $6M next year, $5M in 2012/13, and down to only $1.5M in 2013/14.  he will likely be a steal that year.  could be a lot worse.  *cough* Luongo. *cough*   $10M this year, followed by seven years at $6.7M each.  and then it finally drops to $3.3M and then down to around a million for the last three years.  and unless he starts standing on his head a lot more, the canucks aren't gonna ever be able to dump that contract on somebody else.  :>

Fleury was a cancer to the team, most overated Flame (or hockey player ever!). Need proof... when the team finally traded him for basically nothing, their record suddenly improved! Why... simple the cancer was gone.. Now I respect him for what he went through etc (think they should take that coach bury him alive somewhere).

The simple fact he had habit taking the bad penalties at the worst times!! Without fail.. the team would be down 2 goals in the 3rd; Flames would score and have some momentum....Fluery would take a stupid needless penalty in the offensive zone giving the opposition a PP shot even if they didn't scored on.. the PK ruined the momentum they had. Also it was always about HIM, he was not a 'team' player.

So the fact is Flames were a better team without him then they were with him.

He flew... when he was drinking.

It was good to see Backlund score a pair last night. Even though they lost, maybe Sutter will give Backlund a real chance to become a solid contributor offensively. Yep there will be some ups & downs but you took this guy in the first round, they've got to give a good chance...not like the past forward prospects..

don't look now, but we're actually sitting in the division lead.  due to less games played.  if nobody else in this division starts playing better, we may actually end up making the playoffs in the third seed.  :>
