Flames Thread: Scoring is overrated Topic

Beating the Blue Jackets no big deal..but did score 6...but beating the Sharks 4-0 is something. The only thing negative about it was that they jump out to that 4-0 lead in the first period and then (as usual) went back to a defensive style... the same style that allowed so many last year to erase such leads (eg the Black Hawks...). I not suggesting they go nuts and try to run up the score, that will need to same result..other team coming back BUT keep doing what got them the 4 goal lead. The thing is they don't , right into a defensive shell..

I got no problem with the Defensive shell with a 4 goal lead... dont want to get into a run and gun show with the Sharks, even if they were tired from scoring so many times against the Oilers on Saturday night.

Looking good last two, but I am not getting excited yet... we were scoring machines last year early on and we all saw how that ended.. but still a positive, return of Bourque is a boost and keeping staios in the rafters is always a good thing

yeah, the reason they missed the playoffs last year was by blowing so many leads in the third.  as nickhead says, i don't mind defense when up 4-0, but they used to do it when only up by a goal.  hope they learned from their mistakes last year.   :>

the 'defensive shell is WHY they blew those leads!!! Yea don't want to get into a 'run and gun' type game but why change what got you the lead in the first place? Time after time over the last 2 seasons.. they have gone into this defensive shell..only to blow the lead. Look at it over that past 2 years how many 3rd period 2 goals (or more) leads they've blown.. Now add in 1 goal leads...

Well yeah if you go into a defensive shell and make mistakes your going to give up the leads... which the Flames defintely did... against Chicago at the top of my mind last year... but they also got into trouble with stupid effin penalties in those games too... maybe cause the Sharks were tired from playing 22 hours before.. but it looked like an effective shell

That's a BIG example but time and time again over the past couple of seasons I've seen this team blow 2 goals leads in the third all cause they try to protect the lead.. Maybe this season will be different.... but somehow if they keep doing their turtle game I seriously doubt it.

I hate it when they sit on 2 goal leads... they always blow it.. most dangerous lead in the game

Once again they changed the way they were playing..allowed the game to go up tempo and that was to the advantage of the Oilers..

Actually I would argue the Eberle goal changed everything.  It was an incredibly weak goal allowed by Kipper that gave the Oilers the jump and got them back in the game... especially at the end of the period, just like J-bo's it gave them full energy in the third.

Doesn't it stand to reason that anyone who's been to Canuck's training camp would lead the Flames in scoring.

I guess that would be the convoluted Canucklehead answer.

Yeah Morrison is odd... wont/cant cheer for him other than when he scores... but has been an asset, dont think it will last considering he is a P.O.S

i like morrison.   i said so from the start.  he's definitely worth the money we're paying him.  more so than a number of other guys on the team.   and if vancouver's training camp is so great, peter, why isn't the guys who made it through doing better?  :>

Well Karlsson sure looked like crap last night... though the defense didnt really help him... Budaj was equally bad though and we coughed up another lead... though not from sitting on it, from just being pure horrible in our own end
