Upcoming Release - NEW SPREADSHEET Topic

All-star game has been on the list for a long time, no doubt. But instead of just a quick cosmetic fix, I'd rather have an actual game play, and maybe add a 3pt contest or something. Unfortunately, that would take more time.

and note - Drexler wouldn't likely have made the team, since he only had 36 votes, and the `12th man had 37 votes (btw - that Gary Payton is mine, and he is WAY over-performing)

why not make a quick cosmetic fix (establish a second 5 tier with qualifying positions like you do for the first 5) that pleases your customers now and then roll out the cool features in a later release to make things even better? that way you have what they call a win-win

I agree with longtall's post too, and I can see both Seble's point of view and understand how some users can be upset sometimes about the games flaws. That being said we ALL agree on one thing, we'd like the game to keep improving and we'd like it to grow, attract more customers.

I believe the game is improving but I can see that everytime a major release happens a lot of us seem to freak out and panic, including myself. I held back for three weeks after the last one because I was reading some of the most negative comments and thought the game had gone to hell. I eventually decided to try it for myself and realized the game was still cool and I actually thought it had improved despite what I had read.

Why do we overeact that bad? Probably because we're hooked to that game and don't want to lose it. Sure it's not perfect, it's not reality and it's never going to be, it's whatif?... However it's as close as I've found on the net, and even colonels19 admited to that after having tried other games available out there.

So yea, let's work together on this and try to respect each others. Pretty much everybody that posts here can express himself intelligently so there's no reason to bash someone, mainly Seble because he doesn't do exactly what everybody think should be done, we all know that wouldn't work out either since we don't all agree on how the game should be.

Being agressive and competitive is part of the sports mentality, but let's not lose focus in here, this is a forum, it's easier to get things done if we stay cool than lose control and start trash talkin...

I coaxed 3 good friends with solid NBA knowledge to join this site, and all 3 have stopped playing after 3-4 SIM seasons because of maddening inconsistencies. Some have been addressed, like Wilt fouling out at alarming rates, but I still can't get them to come back.

shoot, we're just a tick above .500 anyhow... it just isn't that great of a team. I haven't been able to really get a handle on the ODL since I came back from my hiatus... Funk's 52 has been fine, but not the ODL (not that I ever dominated in that one!). I had a Greg Harris in baseball (some twist league) who was doing better than Cy Young award winners through the All-Star break, and boy did he crash hard - i expect the same for Payton

I would say that the Wilt fouling out problem seems to have been kinda solved by the last fouls distribution release. I've had Wilt in about half my teams and I remember him fouling out and getting in foul troubles occasionally, which is way more than reality of course, but that happened mainly against... himself. Of course that prevented us from being able to use him for his full minutes worth but then they added the foul substitution option which helped high minutes players get more minutes out of these situations. And since the new foul distribution system I've used Wilt a couple of times and can't remember him fouling out a single time, and I'm usually quick to spot these things.

kfunk, i responded about the double standards/anti-mj bias, but the website shutdown for repairs or something and it was lost.

basically, i said that double standards was the wrong term, and it wasn't anti-mj bias, it's like they think it'd be unfair to play him at pg for that year. That was the "bias" I was speaking of.

For the most part, I agree with you that their system has flaws and needs to be tweaked.

FYI, the spreadsheet has been updated to show some basic stats and then the current salaries and proposed new salaries (different than the original spreadsheet).

File is at http://www.whatifsports.com/db/nba_salaries.zip

Hmmm... not sure I understand the logic behind a lot of them, but then again I'm looking at it on notepad so I can't see all of the numbers very well, but I like the overall salary distribution much better with this.

Still confused at how wiltzilla is nowhere close to the most expensive Wilt, but like I said, I can't see the other numbers very well.

All-in-all, just with the initial glance at the salaries, I am much more satisfied with them. Much.

So why did Dennis Rodman lose 100% at SF for his 91-92 season when he was the starting SF for that team Seble? John Salley started at PF for that team, look at the boxscores and heck I will post below your own NBA SIM salary search showing Salley as a PF. You said there were no pos eff adjustments and yet he is now 91% at SF when he was always 100%...........

We did adjust some listed positions that we felt were wrong. So he was likely only 100% at SF because he was listed there. Once he was no longer listed there, his true effectiveness shows up.

If you have an issue with his effectiveness, just include it in the other thread.
8/27/2008 6:54 PM
I will list it, but I checked NBA database website and he started at SF, with Salley at PF and Laimbeer at C, so hopefully this won't be an argument. I agree with the SIM that in his later years he is strictly a PF/C, but he was def a SF/PF for his early years.
