I accidentally deleted the post below so I'm reposting it...

HalfAstros - great job with those pull downs this season. I expect this to be a monster class for you.

Thanks red01baron.

I took more risks this season than I usually do, but it paid off.

I had one crazy-good class in Tark the first year with potential, but I think this may be my best overall in 30-something seasons of D3.

this is a sitemail i sent red but he wanted me to post here to generate some discussion. see below:

Red, wanted to send you a note here to get some insight into your rankings. For PG you just posted, it seems like you have some very low SP/ATH combos in the top 10 (King, Huth, Phillips,etc.). I always look for SP/ATH combos above almost all else. Can you give me some insight into how you rate your PGs b/c I had my guy rated higher than some of those you put in there ahead. I know everyone has a slightly different way, but your way certianly produces consistency.

By the wya, my ratings actually had King #1 though as well but I passed b/c of his SP/ATH combo and his WE. Thanks for any insight.

I tend to recruit PG's with high SPD,PA,BH ratings and high potential STA, personally I'd never recruit 7 of the 10 top point guards, with the exceptions being Barbour,Washington and Davis( taking into account lack of info regarding each players potential). I now avoid all recruits with less than 20 WE, the few i've had never worked out like i'd hoped.

Everyone has their own take on this, i'd be interested in what other think

Calloway, myself I use Ath, Sp, BH, & Pass for my core 4 stats for a point guard. For my second level I like ST & Def. If I can I look at PE and hope I can get one at least 20 to 30. I agree with you on the WE 100%. Feel free to check out Red's Prior to last season (40) Pre-season rankings.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to rush my response a bit since it's waaay late and I've got an early morning tomorrow. I had the same initial reaction when I first saw the results - I was surprised to see a few guys with lower SPD rate so highly. King, Huth, and Phillips all have PA ratings of 70 or higher which is pretty remarkable for incoming DIII freshmen. That being said, it could be that I need to throw more weight on the SPD category - I'll have to mull that over some and see how it affects other areas. I'm also open to considering the opinions of others as well. A couple other notes:

1.This system is an attempt to be offensive/defensive set agnostic. As such, I have to be careful about how I weight categories. As an example, at SMCM I run the press and motion. Therefore, I personally value SPD very highly and tend to not recruit as heavily for defense (ever look at SMCM’s defensive ratings?). This is probably not a great strategy for a Triangle/M2M team. With that in mind, when rating all recruits (and not for a specific O/D) I need to ignore these types of things and look more at raw skills across the board. In this respect, the Red Ratings do not correspond to how I rate recruits for my own team.

2.As for WE, the Red Ratings don’t consider it very heavily. Not to say it’s not important, but these ratings are more focused on raw skills and less on potential. Just because a guy may be the best prospect coming out of HS, doesn’t mean he’ll finish that way. I personally have never recruited guys like King, Holman or Mayhew and likely never will. In fact, they never even showed up on my radar b/c I have a much high threshold for minimum WE. However, these players still have premium skill levels and should be evaluated on these merits.

Just thought I would offer some brief insight and opinion. I’m more than open to further discussion on this and would like to hear other’s opinions. I’m always willing to incorporate suggestions.

FYI, I’ll be out of pocket for the next several days so I may not get to any updates until I’m back. In the meantime, I’ll publish the SG ratings…
