ESPN reports that Texas A & M isn't 100% gungho on joining Texas in the Pac-10. They also want to investigate the SEC since they already have rivalries with Arkansas and LSU.

The SEC may also consider Kansas. A Kansas-Kentucky conference rivalry would certainly be on par with Duke-UNC.

This conference expansion is all about football and of all the rumors I've read none have mentioned Kansas to the SEC. Kansas to the Pac 10 is possible if Texas and/or Oklahoma don't go there.

Although conference expansion is driven primarily by football, total athletic department revenue is certainly a factor in the decision-making process. Despite not being a football power, Kansas ranked 11th in the nation in overall athletic department revenue in 2009, ahead of Oklahoma and Nebraska. So it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Kansas get snatched up by any of the BCS leagues, mediocre football notwithstanding (assuming the Kansas State problem can be resolved).

I've never understood what Syracuse would bring to the Big 10. Yeah, the basketball program is great, but the football program sucks and it wouldn't bring the NYC market. The only reason to take Syracuse to is to bring about the end of the Big East to get Notre Dame. Even then, Pitt or Rutgers would probably be better pick-ups
Syracuse would bring a nice portion of the NYC market.

Syracuse is a very risky proposition, though. Sure they'd bring TV for basketball. But the question is what kind of program can Syracuse be in football? If Syracuse can regain its form of the late 1980's and 1990's, when they went to 12 bowl games in 13 seasons, then yeah, SU is a great pickup. But if they're a perennial cellar-dweller like most of the past decade, then they're a terrible addition. The likely answer, of course, is that they'll end up somewhere in between those two extremes over the long term. The question these BCS leagues have to evaluate is whether that is good enough?

Probably more likely the Big East being gone or at least a shell of its former self. The non-football Big East schools are really screwed.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/sports/blogs/Watch-This/Remaining-Big-12-schools-to-the-Big-East-gaining-momentum-96137294.html

still plenty of bottom feeders in the world of D-1 football to make up a conference of almost but not quite good enoughs:

East: Pitt, West Virginia, UConn, South Florida, Syracuse, Rutgers/Central Florida
West: Cincinnati, Louisville, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Missouri/Memphis

Add in Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, DePaul, Notre Dame? for hoops. Maybe someone from the A-10 like Xavier.
