Different situations.
One is a small amount of money for basically nothing, that adds up over time, especially when you buy a 10-pack.
The italics in the other one were for you, BTW.  In the second situation, the money, small as it was, made their apology mean more than just words.

If 4 bucks is 4 bucks, why isn't 5 bucks better/important?

Seriously, I don't care about anyone's finances and my comment of "It's $5" wasn't meant to be derisive.  But, if you're going to make 3 comments about it, I figured I'd address it.

Unfortunately, you're not alone.   It's why so many worlds have a race to 4th.   A buck for 3rd, four for 4th.
