On days off for Tex or games Girardi "rests" him by putting him at DH. So, 15-20 games a year?
And I have a hard time believing ARod can play at an above average level from 40-42. And of all the teams in baseball, the Yankees are a team that won't accept a full time player putting up .250/15/75, which ARod isn't exactly far off from now, at age 36. He might be there sooner than that.
With the Yanks, Tex has averaged 149+ games at 1B. He's also one of the best fielding 1B in baseball. He signed thru 2016. Finally, 1B isn't the most physically taxing position. Why would the Yankee manager put someone learning the position over there?
The Yankees gave A-Rod the long deal with the expectation of cashing in on him breaking the HR record. If, and it's no longer a guarantee, he's still chasing the record when he's 40, he's not becoming a part-time player.
