I saw Bob Friend last night along with some other 1960 WC Pittsburgh Pirates who were honored before the game.  I wish I could have talked to him and told him how he is 13-1 at the All-Star break for my team in League #4.

Sparky and my batter trying for a bunt hit again, with two out and none on. Third baseman must have been playing pretty deep....

The good news is that my 1-run loss rate has slowed, as I went 21-20 in 1-run games since my last update.  I finally cracked the Top 24.  My expected winning% would put me 5th overall.

Update thru 89 games...

You are the man!

I see your name on most all the threads, so I figure you are the man.

My bad news, this evening: 0-6
My good news: four of the losses were by 1 run or in extra innings

Went 12-6 today, unusually good. Funny thing is four of my teams are now 44-49 and another at 43-50. Consistent. Bad, but consistent.

I decided to do some further analysis on my teams.  So I parsed the wins and losses by scoring margin and by strength of opponent (as of 94 games).  I categorized my opponent into 5 categories:
Great (.600+)
Good (.525-.600)
Average (.475-.525)
Below Avg (.400-.475)
Poor (<.400)

Here are the results...

Opponent Win by 3+ Lose by 3+ Win by 2 Lose by 2 Win by 1 Lose by 1 Total Wins Total Loss Win%

Poor 24 10 4 5 7 3 35 18 0.660

The take away from this is that my teams can't beat average (or better) opponents in games decided by 1 run.  We're also terrible vs. the best teams, in all measures.
