You'd think. It's definitely possible that I'm missing something; I'm just saying that offhand I don't see the advantage of nominating earlier.

I don't see any advantage to nominating at a specific spot, period. Even if you see everyone else who has been nominated, and tailor your nomination to provide access to certain players, the Round 1 draft order is random. So it's not like you're setting yourself up to get good teammates.

Upon further reflection I agree that there is no competitive advantage gained. The only advantage is one of preference; if I happen to not like particular players, a later pick would enable me to choose which of those players to bar from the league. Or if there is a player that I really want to include in the league, picking last would enable me to ensure that he is included. It wouldn't mean that I would necessarily get that player, though. So I suppose I agree that it doesn't really matter either way.
