My gift to calhoop is the month of August!

If that's not enough, calhoop can also have the 1979 Texas Rangers. They are not the worst team remaining, but possibly the worst matchup combo with your 79 Yankees.

Their World Series victory is far in the horizon, because these Rangers have only two starting batters who hit slightly above average. They have a nice pitch hitting OF, a couple of playable mid quality starters (far below your current ones), and a couple of good RP. The only real upgrade here is at 3B, but any team that denied you 3B seemed to give cheap backups.

The Rangers' real contribution is redundant cheap players. You had a cheap SS, but now you have three of them! You had a cheap C and now you have two. You had 5 cheap RP (one SUPER cheap), and now there are ten.

Currently your cheapest 1B is 3m (2B & 3b are 4m), but you still have two rounds to go.

Whether you will have enough really good players to sweat about salary is hard to say.

I get the honors of giving our esteemed commissioner his first screw pick. His first pick of the 49 Red Sox give him an all star at 5 positions and little in the way of pitching. So to go along with this team, I award him
the 39 Philadelphia Athletics.

Two more all stars in Frankie Hayes and Bob Johnson
, but absolutely no pitching help to be had. Team whip of 1.66 and baa of .304. Have fun losing 11-10 buddy!

Truly not the most useful pitching staff I've ever seen.

Hayes numbers are playable but don't really feel All Star quality either. Nicely done!

I will wait until my time and then pick. It seems the fair thing to do and we will still be on time for a tomorrow round 3 start.

whalers10 gets the 79 Giants, 2 cheap relievers, though you may be in trouble if you were to lose one, your better starters don’t have many innings, and your best hitters are not at positions of need.

dcpeterso you shale receive the 1959 Boston Red Sox....explanation coming at the end of my time.

dcpeterson - thought process:

Your 1979 Expos:

The Hitters have some nice players in the $4-5M range with the Hawk the star at $5.967M, an inexpensive 3-4 players on the bench. Fairly solid. No one mind-boggling but a solid starters kit.

The Pitching staff has a few arms you will for sure use but will likely need more SP's down the road. No budget busters with a nice Steve Rogers.

After tormenting through 2-3 teams I landed on the 1959 Red Sox as they have no hitters under $1.2M and the best hitter P. Runnels is $7.1M. Old Ted Williams is there at $1.9M as a Util but his stats are not so hot.

The staff has innings (mostly all sucky), some cheap guys that are horrific, and that is about all. Have a great evening.

Round 3 begins early.

Now that I can see the jbar8888 round 2 assignment, in round 3 he gets to take ..... the 1959 Cleveland Indians.

He was rich with cheap and quality RP - and now he is richer.

They will help with his 3rd OF slot and give him more PA at 1B, but no help on the SS problem, no quality C, no cheap OF, no quality SP.

Round 3 pick for dcpeterso

So far you have the 1979 Expos and 1959 Red Sox

The Expos give you several decent pitchers but only Rogers is a workhorse. The Red Sox give you nothing but cheap roster fillers if you can find some big inning guys for your ultimate rotation.

And... if you spend a lot of Expo roster spots on pitchers, you will have to be very selective about which hitters you use. The Red Sox offer some hitting options but not that many. 2b Runnels is expensive for this league and you would need a cheap backup to make it work. Otherwise you have some useful cost-effective options at the other positions but no real cheap backups, as previously mentioned, to help with complementing your third and fourth team.selections.

Your third team will be the 1939 Boston Bees.

Maybe you can fit in a few really mediocre pitchers in the 130-160 IP range. Nothing else to consider but more sub $1mm fodder.

The offense really does not give you anything to complement what you already have.

You have a lot of work to do with your 4th team but picking second in Round 4 will help. Meanwhile, enjoy your new teammates

Round 3 whalers10

I will keep the 1979 Theme rolling with you. 1st the 1979 Red Sox a nice balanced team that should start a nice foundation. Then the horrific 1979 San Francisco Giants do not provide too much love for roster construction.

I offer you the 1979 Atlanta Braves...there are two guys OF Gary Matthews and a productive lower AB Bob Horner but the rest are rough. The Pithing staff is horrendous with the best/only usable starter being a less than average expensive $8M+ Joe Niekro.

Enjoy!

3rd round pick for ermocito will be the 39 Senators, an okay starter and a mediocre one to go along with nothing in the way of relievers. Some okay to decent hitters, though they fall in the same positions as your excellent Red Sox bats.

Calhoop's third round team is the 29 Cincinnati Reds. One good starter and that's about it for pitching. On offense a bunch of slap hitters and only one player under a million, the unfortunately named Billy Zitzmann.
