hey GM.. was going to ask.. since you finally got to see a game, what do you think of Jackman?

actually, he's impressed me.  he can actually play hockey.  i still think the fight two minutes into the game against vancouver was useless and therefore boring, but other than that he's looked pretty decent.  looks like a major improvement over guys like goddard and simon who tend to take penalties at the worst possible time.  reminds me more of tim hunter.  the guy was a goon, but he was also a smart hockey player.  didn't take many bad penalties, and knew when to drop the gloves and when not to.  and of course he could throw down with the best of them.  though it looks like jackman might have more skill than hunter.  heh.  :>

Again there are rumors that Sutter's job might be in jeopardy...the coach not the GM.  Though if either should go, I'd say it should the GM

the GM should definitely go.  the coach hasn't done a great job either, but part of that is on the GM for what he has given to work with.  :>

and gm.. Godard may have not been able to play, but he very rarely took bad penalties, rarely minors.  Best enforcer we have had since Timmy.

I know and understand your loathing for Phaneuf ... in your shoes I would feel the same - I compare it to my loathing for Bryan McCabe ... but attempting to put all biases aside I still think we won that trade.  Read an Adam Proteau blog on THN this morning that I think puts a good perspective on it.

Considering I would rather have had a bag of pucks than Phiona considering his paycheck, ego and play.  I will always argue the crap we got in return was a win for us.

I understand how the blind and those outside of Calgary feel the trade was a benefit to Toronto... but dont forget... Phiona was a cancer in Calgary, cornholing Conroy's wife sent the team into dressing room anarchy and we went into a 9 game losing streak last year... the guy was showing a generous lack of desire on the ice, but still overly cocky... he's a dick in public... it was all about Dion for Dion in Calgary and that didnt work when Iginla is the Captain... Sure the attitude may work in TO where everybody thinks they are a god.. but from what I have heard, the Leaf fans are even starting to boo him there...

Could Sutter have gotten more?.. maybe.. his stock was on a steady downward spiral with his horrible lazy defensive play, decline of physical play, and his great ability to miss the net... but he needed to be traded when he was traded and Sutter took what he could get and we celebrated

Enjoy the salary and the baggage.. good riddance... we could  have paid TO to take Phiona and I would still firmly believe the Flames are a better organization and win the trade.

Calgary's biggest (and pretty much only problem IMO) is their hard-on for men with the last name "Sutter" ... I've said that for a long time.  The transactions of the past two seasons have been ridiculous - acquiring Jokinen to begin with, the contract to Stajan, RE-SIGNING Jokinen after already knowing what you are getting are all ones that immediately come to mind ... not sure what the Sutter family has on the ownership group of the flames but MY GAWD they should have been gone a LONG time ago.  Your city deserves FAR better.  Was shocked to see them actually trade away the Sutter kid after that cabbie incident - I fully expected to see him buried in the A for awhile til it blew over.
