Just an FYI - in that game we lost 27-20 and the deciding touchdown was a fumbled kickoff return by Sam Seale that New England recovered in the end zone. Wilson also threw 3 picks that game and we still had a chance to win.

I think you'd have had to be there to know for sure but it's not something I'd dismiss. Security wasn't very tight in the 70s(I'm sure you remember Morganna) and it was huge play. Everyone is jumping around celebrating a victory. Telling them "No, no catch. Two offensive players touched it" when you really can't tell(and I've seen it a hundred times in slow motion) could be a bit troublesome.
