smeric got to ask... did you watch the game?... I know I am used to seeing that Phiona last night from Calgary last season, is that what has everybody excited in TO or does he play differently there?

Sadly, I missed the game last night due to holiday obligations.

To be honest, aside from the very rare hit, he's really been a non-factor on the ice here - but then that is true for most of our blueline.  We have a blueline that SHOULD be tough to play against from a physical aspect (Phaneuf, Komisarek, Beauchemin), but aside from Schenn they are pretty disappointing physically.  Phaneuf shook things up when he got here and we needed that ... my continued hope is that he is simply in a developmental "phase" right now ... I think everyone knows we don't have the Phaneuf from the WJC a few years back, or the Phaneuf from his first couple seasons in Calgary - we just hafta hope he reverts BACK to that player sometime soon.  Regardless, he's better than what we had.

I hope to see a change behind the bench someday soon ... nothing against Wilson, but he's done nothing to inspire me in his tenure here.  God I miss Pat Burns.

Calgary's biggest (and pretty much only problem IMO) is their hard-on for men with the last name "Sutter" ... I've said that for a long time.  The transactions of the past two seasons have been ridiculous - acquiring Jokinen to begin with, the contract to Stajan, RE-SIGNING Jokinen after already knowing what you are getting are all ones that immediately come to mind ... not sure what the Sutter family has on the ownership group of the flames but MY GAWD they should have been gone a LONG time ago.  Your city deserves FAR better.  Was shocked to see them actually trade away the Sutter kid after that cabbie incident - I fully expected to see him buried in the A for awhile til it blew over.

That's it, keep trying to deflect attention away from absolute Leaf suckiness by trying to point the finger at someone else.  Leaf fans have loved doing that forever (because they have sucked forever)  hey hey everybody look!  There's another team over there that's not doing very well!  Look at all the crappy things they've done!

My posts are never derogatory, and are from the perspective of a hockey fan.  The person I am, the hockey fan I am, is not predicated on my geography, or what team I grew up watching.  If you are not "big" enough to accept a critique of your team from outside YOUR little universe then perhaps a public forum is not the right arena for you.  If you read ALL my posts, you will see I criticize Toronto also ... probably with more "malice" than I criticize other teams.  Why?  Because I care about them more, not because the person *I* am is tied to a sports team's success.  I *know* Toronto has sucked the last few years, I *know* they've sucked pretty much for 45 years (except for an all too brief period in the early 90's) - it doesn't make me care about them any less and it doesn't mean I cannot make observations about other teams.

I think perhaps you've confused me with our good friend "deathinahole" ... I don't "come after people" until situations like this one come along.  I've just searched all my posts from the past year (and there aren't very many of them) and I see nowhere where there are posts from me that fit your description.  Whatever .... that's where the whole "think before you post" come into play.

If you show me something where I have blindly "defended my "beloved" Leafs in a fashion you are currently trashing me for then I will gladly step up and accept responsibility, but I am confident there are not any.

I love the LEAFS.....I am embarrassed that they have a crappy hockey team.....but I love the LEAFS just the same!!

I agee with this ....

-Getting Jokinen in the first place...not a problem. PROBLEM was what he cost.. a 1st round pick? No way he was worth that (I'm not talking hindsight). I said it when they got him, they paid too much
-Trading him to Rangers for Kotalek.. Second worst trade in Flames history (and not by much!!!). Rangers must been laughing all the way on that one..SUCKERS!!!!
-Signing him again as a FA in the off season??? What's the heck is Sutter SMOKING??!!

Also, Sutter has proven time and time again unable to develop young talent. Look at the past 1st round picks over the last decade... where are they all now??

Let's face it this team is STUCK in neutral and so long as Mr Sutter is the GM, this will not change..

They 'spun' the trading of the Sutter kid as relieving the pressure of playing with the Family here. Is that the truth??? Doesn't really matter, it was part of a salary dump...
