Bad Luck is one old angry man. Geez.

What nationality are you?
From what I can deduce he's a 40ish, white male.

And apparently a scratch golfer.
And a really bad person.
You’re just angry that I exposed you as a financial idiot.

Tang, feed my curiosity. Outside of funding, what reform do you feel is needed in public education?
Well, part of the FEAEC report is Mental Heath reforms in schools and oversight in school reforms. I would like to see STEM burn in a fire, and overhaul the required classes in schools. I also think we need less testing and teaching to the test
I will have to look up the first part, but why the hatred for STEM? I agree about the classes and the testing. I think testing is important to gauge progress, but the current format is ridiculous. As far as classes, I would see them become more relevant and practical. They should offer financial responsibility and training classes. I'm pretty sure a lot of schools have cut home economic courses.

All in all, I think more power needs to be given back to local districts. The academic leaders in the communities know much better what their children need than buearocrats in Washington.
In short, STEM kills the arts and creativity, which are far more important than STEM classes.

I was thinking the exact same thing with classes.

I am cautious about local districts. Their priority is parents and money.
Ahhhh, this is the disconnect. Tang thinks that arts and humanities are more important than technically complex, vocationally relevant courses.

That's why his world is filled with poverty and humanities degrees. While the rest of the civilized world moves ahead with their emphasis on Math and Science and Computer skills, Tang will be living in a box next to Cresty with his Etruscan Literature degree.

How is their priority money?

In my opinion, STEM classes are more important than arts with the direction and prevalence of technology today, but those classes are practically pointless in their current format. They are nothing more than electives that the kids don't take seriously.
Just look at school funding disparities. You already mentioned that they spend on athletic facilities.

In my opinion STEM should be electives. Math, Science, Technology, etc are all job related. Electives should be job specific. Arts help literally everyone.

In the second half of your second point were you talking about STEM or arts classes?
I agree. And I was talking about stem.

As as far as money that could be used for education going to athletics, while I don't think it's right, more times than not it's what the community wants. It's unfortunate, but you can't force people to want to get smarter.
Soooo local school funding is not the way to go.
So, you don't think each community should be free to choose how their tax dollars are spent even if we don't agree with their choice?
Of course in most things they should be, and there should be some leniency within local districts on things, but in things like school funding, they should not.

STEM courses are career based. They should be required up until high school then made electives. I think that things like forensics, drama, debate, english, problem solving, speaking, and critical thinking classes are far more important than STEM classes.
