Sutter is finally gone!... resigning, firing, whatever... all that matters is Darryl is gone... FINALLY

Interestting how this works for Brent... but hopefully Feaster does some good work... without new scouts though we still cant draft so need to get prospects not draft picks

Yep as much as both Kipper & Iggy are basically the 'face' of this franchise..at some point you have to say "this is not working"....

In the article in describes Sutter's recently moves rather accurately as "desperation..an attempt to save his job..." Whenever a GM does that, it has NEVER been a good thing for the team. Though in my opinion..his deperates move go back a ways to the Bouwmeister signing..   (Bouwmeister signing, Jokinen deal, Maple Leaf Trade, Ranger deal, Jokinen resigning.....)  The ONLY thing Sutter has done right over the past 3 seasons..bring Tanguay back. Other than that..

I don't know about the King trade though while it would vault them into the elite of the Western Conference... are they willing to put all their eggs into one basket with the goaltending duties (like Montreal had too)? Also, I think Iggy's stock is not quite it used to be really..

i'd go further back than that aginor.  sutter's real first blunder came when he sent a great defensive d-man who was locked up for three years at a more than reasonable salary along with a an aggressive grinder / checker (ference and kobasew) to boston for a piece of crap offensive d-man who stuck around for five minutes before signing in detroit and a player whose only value was in the fact that he could take faceoffs and play more than one position.  none of them well.  (stuart and primeau).  not only was it a stupid move in the first place, but that deadline deal screwed with the chemistry as well, and possibly lead to the early playoff exit.  :>
While ..yes a bad trade, I wouldn't exactly call that one a 'deperate move to save his job' type deal.  It was a gamble, a bad one but still a gamble. He was hoping for the 'hometown' discount Stuart.  The thing with that is everybody knew Stuart was going FA no matter what!!  and Kobasew...well let's face it Sutter NEVER really gave him a chance here (like he did with most of the prospects)..  Not that he has been GREAT elsewhere but he's proven to be a pretty good defensive forward, something any team could use.

Also at that time his job wasn't really in jeopardy..they were a solid playoff team, just not an elite team.

well, i'm surprised, but pleased.  lets see what the new guy does.  most likely, i'd assume he's gonna look at trading iginla and / or kipper.  hopefully for the right prospects.  :>

As Calgary prepares for a January 15, 2011 visit to Toronto, the question can be asked:
Who won the trade in late January 2010 between the two teams?

There is still time for Dion Phaneuf to rise to the challenge. There is a lot of pressure BUT more on
GM Brian Burke. His former team, the Vancouver Canucks, beat Philadelphia last night, 6-2, and are
my pick to win the Stanley Cup this season!

More detailed trade analysis here.

Meh.. who cares... we already had that trade talk won/loss back when Phiona came back to Calgary earlier in the month... old news now... Sutter is gone, now its hope for the future

Wonder how Christmas was in the Sutter house... cant wait for the first trade

My guess is that not much will change under Feaster.  I see nothing about Feaster that screams out "Hi, I'm the second coming of Ken Holland!"
Let's take a closer look at this franchise's executive history.
Most recently, Sutter was a bum.  Before that, Button was a bum.  Before that, Coates was a bum.  Before that, Risebrough was a bum. I may have missed one or two in there, but who cares, the results were the same.  As a matter of fact, the only GM in Flames history to actually do a credible job (Fletcher) came gift wrapped with the rest of the franchise all the way from Atlanta.
Hmmm...do I detect a trend here?  Maybe, just maybe, the problem actually lies a little deeper than the GM's position?

I am firmly in the camp that believes the only thing that will turn this franchise around is a change in ownership, and the likelihood of that happening any time soon is slim to none.  Remember what happened in Chicago when 2nd generation Wirtz took over?  Remember, it's the team Governors (aka owners) who do the hiring of the GM's, and considering the recent history of bum hiring, that doesn't say much about the hiring skills of the current ownership group.

The one difference with Feaster than the other ones.. he has experience with being a GM and built a Cup winner in Tampa... I do have hope... not hard after the last era

Sutter's problem is he started off with a bang.. made some steals of a deal and then tried to find that knack again and f*cked up stuff time and time again

Do Flames fans not believe the future is bright though? I mean Mikael Backlund, Tim Erixon and Greg Nemisz are pretty solid prospects I think so at least the cupboard isn't totally bare.

Backlund???... really??? you seen him play this year??????????  He's a bum... he got his chance and he has done F all

Future is bleak... but, in the Flames case, draft picks are not the answer... prospects are... we cant draft... should trade all our picks away
