Game 127: AJ Burnett homers and throws eight 5-hit innings as the Riders top St. Louis 10-1 in the series opener. Carl Crawford steals three bases, giving him 66 on the season.

Game 128: Melvin Mora hits a three-run homer in the second inning and Shaun Marcum surpisingly makes it stand up, with some help in the ninth from Ryan Dempster, as Montreal wins 3-2.

Game 129: Michael Cuddyer doubles, homers and drives home five while Aaron Cook scatters 11 hits over six innings to beat the Cthulu 9-3.

We return home to face San Diego next.

Game 130: Kelvim Escobar throws a 6-hitter and Khalil Greene hits his 20th home run as the Spectres top San Diego 6-1.

Game 131: Ryan Theriot hits a pinch-hit, 3-run homer off Ryan Dempster in the ninth and the Conquistadors score a 5-3 victory. It's Dempster's fourth blown save of the season.

Game 132: Dan Uggla draws a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 10 in the eighth, but the Spectres lose in 11, 12-10, as San Diego scores two unearned runs off Gabriel Westrich.

Frisco is in town next.
2/3/2011 11:57 PM
Game 133: Ryan Dempster blows another save, allowing two Niner runs in the ninth, and Frisco rocks Jason Frasor for three more runs in the 10th to score a 6-3 comeback win over Montreal.

Game 134: The Niners overcome a 5-1 first-inning deficit, scoring seven times in the eighth and twice more in the ninth to finish off a 14-8 win over the Spectres.

Game 135: The Spectres manage to avoid a humiliating sweep as Jake Westbrook limits the Niners to four hits over seven innings of work and the offense continues to hum, leading to a 10-2 win in the series finale.

We go from West leader to Central leader... it's off to Milwaukee.
2/4/2011 11:20 PM (edited)

Game 136: With recent Ryan Dempster failures close in mind, the Spectres let Kelvim Escobar go out for the ninth inning with a 1-0 lead. It doesn't work. Escobar allows three straight singles to start the inning; Chad Bradford enters and allows a fourth, giving the Bears a 2-1 win.

Game 137: Milwaukee scores three in the first off spot starter Gabriel Westrich and makes it stand up, edging Montreal 3-2. A leadoff single in the ninth goes nowhere for the Spectres.

Game 138: AJ Burnett struggles in the fourth and fifth, then allows a grand slam to Bengie Molina in the sixth, and the Bears complete a sweep of Montreal with a convincing 9-2 win.

Montreal returns home to host Houston.

2/5/2011 10:29 PM (edited)
Game 139: Shaun Marcum allows only two solo home runs in six innings and Ryan Dempster has a good ninth to earn his 29th save as the Spectres beat Houston 6-5.

Game 140: Houston puts up a six-run 8th inning, but it's too little, too late. Montreal hits three home runs, including Ken Griffey Jr's 20th, and wins 9-6.

Game 141: Carl Crawford has four hits, Ken Griffey Jr. homers for the second straight game, and the Spectres sweep Houston with a 9-2 decision.

We head to Chicago next.
2/6/2011 11:22 PM (edited)
Game 142: Kelvim Escobar throws a complete-game 7-hitter, improving to 14-10, as the Spectres down the Bootleggers 8-1.

Game 143: Chicago gets a near-complete game from Derek Lowe, who limits the Spectres to a single run and wins his 18th game, 5-1.

Game 144: AJ Burnett strikes out 11 and wins his 15th game, 4-1, over the Bootleggers. Khalil Greene hits a three-run homer and reaches the 100-RBI mark for the season, the second Spectre to do so (Carlos Delgado was the first).

We return home to host Los Angeles.
2/8/2011 12:29 AM
Game 145: Los Angeles scores five times in the first off Shaun Marcum, then gets a brilliant performance from Scott Kazmir on the mound as the Glovers run away with the series opener, 8-0.

Game 146: Ken Griffey Jr. and Ramon Hernandez go deep to back Aaron Cook, who improves to 12-6 with an 8-2 win over the Glovers.

Game 147: Jake Westbrook has a rough outing, failing to get his 10th victory, as the Glovers win the series finale 9-5. Prince Fielder hits his 44th home run for the victors.

Montreal travels to Cincinnati next to face the Stingers.
2/8/2011 11:47 PM (edited)
Game 148: The Spectres reattain the .500 mark behind Kelvim Escobar, who goes seven innings for his 15th win, in a 6-2 decision over Cincy. Khalil Greene and Melvin Mora hit home runs for Montreal.

Game 149: Gabriel Westrich throws six 1-hit innings to earn his second win as the Spectres blow out the Stingers 10-0, scoring six times in the ninth to make it a laugher.

Game 150: Ben Sheets strikes out nine Spectres in 5.2 innings of work and the Stingers win the series finale, 6-0.

Montreal begins the final run of divisional competition with a visit from Pittsburgh.
2/9/2011 11:37 PM (edited)
Game 151: Aaron Cook retires only one batter before leaving, trailing 6-0, and it's not much of a contest afterwards. Pittsburgh cruises to a 10-1 victory.

Game 152: Fausto Carmona throws eight 2-hit innings to win his 20th game as the Melons shut out the Spectres 3-0.

Game 153: Montreal gets 10 hits but not very many of them lead to runs, and the Melons win their third straight, 5-2.

Game 154: The Spectres continue to struggle at the plate, managing only four hits in a 2-1 loss, giving Pittsburgh a sweep.

We host Philadelphia next.
2/11/2011 6:58 AM (edited)
Game 155: The Cold Stealers rock Gabriel Westrich and a succession of Spectre relievers, collecting 19 hits and a 15-4 rout over Montreal.

Game 156: The Spectres finally find some offense, but not enough to overcome a typical Shaun Marcum start, and they fall 9-8. Marcum gets his 15th loss.

Game 157: Montreal makes it eight straight losses as they lose to Philly, 5-3.

Game 158: The Spectres get two runs in the seventh, one on an error, and three scoreless innings from the bullpen to edge Philly 4-3 and finally end the skid.

We close the season at New York.
2/12/2011 10:59 PM (edited)
Game 159: The joy is shortlived; the Spectres are held to six hits by Mike Pelfrey and a couple of Mad Men relievers, losing the opener 2-1.

Game 160: Montreal hits 10 doubles, Carlos Delgado drives in six, and the Spectres down the Mad Men 12-4, giving Kelvim Escobar his 16th win. Ken Griffey Jr. hits his 23rd home run and reaches the 90 RBI mark.

Game 161: Ryan Doumit drives in four runs and three Spectres have three hits each as Montreal tops the Mad Men 12-7. Shaun Marcum fails to make it out of the fifth, so the win goes to reliever Brandon Lyon (6-4).

Game 162: Montreal finishes the season on a winning note, getting a pinch hit homer from Asdrubal Cabrera in the ninth to send the game to extras, then a three-run homer by Ken Griffey Jr. in the 10th to win it, 6-3. It's Griffey's 24th homer and gives him 94 RBI.

Montreal finishes 79-83, third in the division and 16 behind Philly. Lots of work to do this offseason.

The 2008 draft has begun.

Montreal trades away its first round pick (#12 overall) for starting pitcher Gavin Floyd.

In Round 2, the Spectres try to shore up the bullpen with Craig Breslow.

It's more of the same in Round 3 as lefty Arthur Rhodes is added to the roster.

In the fourth round, Montreal selects OF Jody Gerut.

Montreal opens the season with a trip to Wrigley Field.

Game 1: Both Montreal's AJ Burnett and Chicago's Derek Lowe throw five scoreless innings to start the season out, and then the fireworks start. Montreal scores twice in the sixth, but the Bootleggers get a bases-loaded double by Adam Kennedy in the bottom half to take the lead. The Spectres get two-run homers from Jose Lopez and Carl Crawford (his second of the game) in a five-run seventh, and tack on insurance runs in the eighth and ninth to claim an Opening Day victory, 9-3.

Game 2: The Spectres are shut down by Jon Lester, failing to score through the first eight innings, and lose to Chicago 4-2.

Game 3: Jason Frasor faces four batters in the eighth. All four score. Montreal manages only a solo homer by Melvin Mora, losing 7-1.

Montreal will celebrate their home opener tomorrow, facing hated rival San Francisco.
3/25/2011 11:09 PM (edited)
Game 4: New pitcher Gavin Floyd gets the ball for the home opener, and he does not disappoint, striking out 10 while walking one over eight shutout innings, and the Spectres get solo home runs from Carlos Delgado, Dan Uggla, and Ken Griffey Jr. on the way to a 4-0 win over the Niners.

Game 5: Carlos Delgado and Dan Uggla go deep again, and the Spectre bullpen contributes five mostly solid innings of relief as Montreal tops Frisco 5-3.

Game 6: Dan Uggla homers for the third straight game, but his teammates don't provide much help and the 69ers batter AJ Burnett for 11 hits as they salvage the series finale with a 7-3 victory over the Spectres.

We're headed to Cincinnati to face the 5-1 Stingers.
