Game 7: A shaky outing by Aaron Cook forces the Montreal bullpen to cover six innings, which they do in spotless fashion, and the Spectres rally for a 7-5 win despite being outhit 13-8. Ryan Doumit hits three doubles and Asdrubal Cabrera blasts a three-run homer.

Game 8: Ryan Dempster throws eight scoreless innings and Arthur Rhodes works around two singles in the ninth to finish a 1-0 shutout win over Cincy. Montreal scores in the first off Ben Sheets and is held to four hits for the day.

Game 9: Ryan Doumit hits a two-run homer in the fourth to open the scoring and Jose Lopez adds a three-run blast in the eighth to close it as the Spectres sweep the Stingers with a 7-3 win in the series finale. Gavin Floyd pitches well and earns his second win in a Montreal uniform.

We head back home to face Houston.

Game 10: Carlos Delgado puts Montreal on the board with a first-inning homer. He homers again to lead off the fourth, the first of back-to-back-to-back longballs (Dan Uggla and Ken Griffey Jr. completing the sequence). The Spectres never look back, beating the Lone Stars 5-0 as Shaun Marcum gets his first win.

Game 11: Ryan Dempster has a very rough outing, allowing 12 runners and eight runs in 6.2 innings, and the Lone Stars even the series with a 9-5 win. Carlos Delgado hits his fiftth home run for Montreal.

Game 12: Aaron Cook throws eight 5-hit innings and Ramon Hernandez hits a two-run homer to life the Spectres to a 2-1 victory.

Divisional play starts with a visit from the New York Mad Men.

Game 13: Carlos Delgado hits his sixth home run and Melvin Mora's RBI double in the seventh brings home the eventual winning run as the Spectres survive a shaky ninth-inning performance by the bullpen to beat New York 4-3. Ryan Dempster strikes out 10 batters in seven innings of work to improve to 2-1.

Game 14: Carlos Delgado caps a four-run seventh with a two-run blast, his seventh of the season, and Gavin Floyd runs his record to 3-0 in a 6-1 victory over the Mad Men.

Game 15: New York ties the game at three on John Baker's pinch-hit single in the seventh. Jody Gerut leads off the bottom half with a single, but the Spectres can't move him from there. Neither team scores in the eighth; Trever Miller allows only a two-out single in the ninth. Dennys Reyes pitches the ninth for New York. He also allows a two-out single, to Jody Gerut. The difference is that the Spectres have Carlos Delgado batting next. BOOOM! Delgado hits his eighth home run of the season, and Montreal wins 5-3.

Game 16: Carl Crawford has his second two-homer game of the season, adding a double, single and stolen base, and Carlos Delgado hits his ninth home run to help AJ Burnett to his first win of the season, 9-7 over the Mad Men.

The division leading Cold Stealers (13-3) are in town next.

Things slowed down a bit for the world-renowned Spectres in the first two games of the initial series against the mighty and feared Stealers.  We'll see what happens in the second half of this pivotal clash of powers.
3/30/2011 11:12 PM
Game 17: After a four-run seventh for Montreal ties the game, outfielder Matt Joyce commits a crucial error in the eighth, as the Stealers score an unearned run that proves to be the game-winner. The Spectres do not put up a threat in the eighth or ninth, losing 5-4.

Game 18: Montreal suffers another one-run loss to Philly, again in agonizing fashion, as Asdrubal Cabrera's error in the eighth brings home the winning run in a 4-3 decision.

Game 19: The Spectres are in danger of suffering their first sweep of the season as they drop a third straight game to Philly. Both teams get nine hits, but Spectre starter Gavin Floyd allows backbreaking RBI hits to Willy Taveras and Jason Kendall, and the Stealers triumph 6-3, dealing Floyd his first loss.

Game 20: Shaun Marcum throws six scoreless innings and the Spectres get home runs from Ken Griffey Jr. and Asdrubal Cabrera as they salvage the finale against Philly, winning 4-3.

Interleague play starts with home-and-home sets against Cleveland and Atlanta.

Game 21: The Spectres outhit the visiting Classics 14-7, getting three hits each from Ken Griffey Jr. and Ryan Doumit, and double them up on the scoreboard as well, winning 6-3.

Game 22: A short start by Aaron Cook (2.2 innings) forces the bullpen to work overtime, and it is no surprise when Cleveland ties the score in the eighth on Paul Bako's single. After two strikeouts to lead off the ninth, Jose Lopez is called safe on a grounder to short, which prompts Cleveland's manager to get himself thrown from the game. Ken Griffey Jr. follows with a laser beam double to right field, and Lopez scores the lead run. Dallas Braden puitches a perfect ninth, and the Spectres win 7-6.

Game 23: The visiting Spectres get three hits from rookie shortstop Herman Montana, but not much else, as they drop a 2-1 decision to the Dirt Farmers.

Game 24: Carlos  Delgado puts the Spectres ahead with his 11th home run of the season, a third-inning shot, and Montreal holds on to beat Atlanta 4-2. Gavin Floyd improves to 4-1.

The Spectres head to Pittsburgh to finish off the first round of divisional play.

Game 25: The Spectres can do nothing with Gil Meche, who throws a complete game shutout, while Shaun Marcum has his first truly horrible performance (8 hits, seven runs in 3.1 innings) and Pittsburgh routs Montreal 11-0.

Game 26: AJ Burnett throws a complete game 1-hit shutout, and the Spectres score entirely too many runs for the occasion, pounding out 23 hits in an 18-0 rout of the Melons. Jose Lopez paces the attack with four hits; Melvin Mora scores four times.

Game 27: Dan Uggla hits a three-run homer in the fourth, then adds a grand slam in the fifth, as the Spectres reach double digits for the second straight game in a 10-1 win over Pittsburgh. Aaron Cook allows only an unearned run in eight innings of work for the win.

Game 28: Ryan Dempster allows three runs in the first and another in the second; that's too far behind for the Spectres to come back from against Matt Garza, who is brilliant for seven innings. Montreal gets to the Melon bullpen, but too little too late as the first close game in the series goes to Pittsburgh, 5-4.

Interleague sets with Baltimore and St. Paul are next.

The world-famous Spectres make an early feint as if to contend -- but no one takes this seriously.

Game 29: Gavin Floyd allows two homers in the first and another in the third; for the second straight game, Montreal fails to fully recover from an early deficit, losing to visiting Baltimore 5-4.

Game 30: Ken Griffey Jr.'s RBI single snaps a 2-2 tie in the eighth, but previously untouchable Chris Moreland allows a three-run double in the bottom of that inning and the Aureoles sweep the season series from Montreal, winning 5-3.

Game 31: The Spectres have the misfortune of facing Johan Santana when the Sarlaacs come to town; he pitches a complete game 5-hitter, and St. Paul wins 6-1. Montreal has lost four straight.

Game 32: The Spectres get nine hits, but none for extra bases. Still, they take a 1-0 lead in the seventh. It doesn't last long. Vlad Guerrero ties the game in the eighth with an RBI single, and Trever Miller enters to face Casey Blake. Blake blasts a three-run homer, and the Sarlaacs win 4-1.

The Spectres head to Milwaukee to face the Bears.
4/5/2011 12:03 AM (edited)
Game 33: AJ Burnett decides that one time through the rotation without a victory is enough, and limits the Bears to one run over eight innings of work. Carlos Delgado chips in with his 12th home run, and Herman Montana has two hits and and RBI. Montreal takes the opener, 5-1, snapping a five-game skid.

Game 34: Matt Joyce has three hits, including two home runs, and drives home five as the Spectres overcome an early 2-1 deficit by scoring 10 times over the final four innings to beat the Bears, 11-2. Jose Lopez and Ken Griffey Jr. also hit home runs for the victors; Craig Breslow gets the win in relief.

Game 35: Carlos Delgado hits his 13th home run as the Spectres complete a sweep of Milwaukee with a 7-4 victory. Montreal uses four relievers to cover the final 4.1 innings, but get things done in the end as Brandon Lyon records the final two outs for the save.

Interleague sets with Kansas City and Chicago are next.

Game 36: Visiting Kansas City ties the game at three with a run in the eighth, but Chris Moreland throws three scoreless frames and the Spectres snap their skid against AL teams with a run in the 11th to win 4-3. Asdrubal Cabrera's pinch hit double is followed by Jeffery Winkelman's fourth hit of the game, which brings home the winner.

Game 37: Kansas City abuses Aaron Cook in the second, scoring eight times, then adds five more runs in the fourth (off Homer Bailey). The outcome is never really in doubt, though the Spectres collect 17 hits on the day, losing 13-7. Carlos Delgado hits two home runs to give him 15 for the season.

Game 38: Carlos Delgado has three more hits, including his 16th home run, and the Spectres survive a 3-dinger outing by Ryan Dempster as they beat the visiting White Sox 10-5. Dempster does contribute at the plate with a double and run scored.

Game 39: Gavin Floyd has a rough outing, allowing two home runs, and reliever Cesar Jimenez surrenders a three-run bomb to Jorge Posada as the White Sox avenge themselves with a 10-4 victory.

The Spectres head home to face St. Louis.

Game 41: AJ Burnett strikes out 10 batters in a complete game 5-hitter and Ryan Doumit drives in five runs as Montreal tops St. Louis 11-1.

Game 42: The Spectres are stumped by Clayton Kershaw, then can't score at all of the Cthulu bullpen, losing the rubber match of this series 8-2. Kershaw gets his first win of the season.

The Spectres head to Los Angeles to face the Glovers.
4/7/2011 11:19 PM (edited)
Game 43: Rookie Jeffrey Winkelman sparks the offense with three hits from the leadoff spot, and Ryan Dempster pitches well into the seventh as the Spectres defeat the Glovers 6-2. Reliever Aurelio Roush coaxes a double play grounder from Prince Fielder with the bases loaded in the ninth to earn his first save.

Game 44: Carlos Delgado's 17h is one of three Spectre home runs and Arthur Rhodes works around two ninth-inning walks to earn his fifth save as Montreal edges LA 4-3.

Game 45: LA salvages the series finale, winning a slugfest 11-7 by scoring four times off Aurelio Roush in the eighth. Montreal starter Shaun Marcum lasts only three innings, giving up five runs.

San Diego, leading the West at 26-19, visits us next.
4/8/2011 11:47 PM (edited)

Game 47: Carlos Delgado drives in three runs and Dallas Braden pitches two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the victory as Montreal beats San Diego 8-3.

Game 48: The bullpen fails as Arthur Rhodes and Jason Frasor conspire to blow a 3-1 ninth inning lead; San Diego gets a game-tying double from Nick Markakis and the go-ahead run on a hit by Curtis Granderson. Heath Bell retires the Spectres in order in the ninth and the Conquistadors win 4-3.
