Which is a better promotion strategy: promoting a prospect 3 or 4 levels at once and having him start at AAA for 3 or 4 seasons, or promoting him 1 level per season?

I like a player to be in AAA when I have to put him on the 40.  4th season.   So I'm good with RL/LoA, HiA, AA, AAA.  But, if I have crap coaches at a level, I have no problem with a player spending 2 seasons in AAA.

Most players have a consistent development pattern.  It varies from owner to owner but, if you look at a team, almost all of their prospects will fit the pattern.  It's based on a lot of things.  Most players don't make any significant gains after their third season.   As long as a player plays, he will develop at any level.  I tend to hold mine back as listed above for salary purposes.   I like him to be close to fully developed when he hits the bigs so I can get 5 peak seasons on the cheap.

I was on vacation for 10 days, and held ground with occasional log ins.  Does that prove that day to day operations on HBD are overkill efforts?

I'm sure you have gas by now.

Depends on how your team is set up.   And what happens while you're gone.  Injuries or a couple of extra inning games can make a big difference.
