And then brought them into the NL. We're so glad to have you.

In another coup for GM Doug Melvin, the Brewers have failed to sign first round draft choice Dylan Covey, who will use his scholarship to San Diego State instead. The 14th pick in the draft, Covey was known to be seeking a signing bonus of at least $2M. The MLB "guideline" for that slot was $1.7M. Earlier today, the Angels signed the 18th pick for a $2.3M bonus.

Still, the early reports are that the decision is not about the money. Family has yet to tell their side of the story. I'm pretty sure it was about the money.

Did they offer 1.7mil?

Okay, MLBN reports he has type 1 diabetes and his family wants him to stay home for a while to learn how to live/pitch with it.

Yeah, the family has been very complimentary to the Brewers for how they handled everything... sounds like neither party is angry with the other. Still a disappointing result.

TREVOR TIME!!!!!

Is the lack of irony surprising to you, too?

It was the lack of a blown save that surprised me.

The Brewers are trying to figure out whether to blow an option on Carlos Gomez, currently rehabbing in AAA, to keep him there until rosters expand September 1.

Or, you know, they could just bring him back to the big leagues and send one of their THIRTEEN pitchers back down for a week or so.

Gomez has been brought back to Milwaukee but not added to the roster yet. Apparently the team hasn't decided what move to make. Some possibilities include trading Counsell, releasing Riske, or sending McClendon down.

Gallardo leaves in the fourth after an ineffective performance, but Casey McGehee drives in four runs and the Brewers prevail 10-6 in a slugfest. Chris Capuano pitches 3.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Brewers win their second straight over San Diego, 6-5, with Ax Man getting a five-out save.

It was also confirmed in the Journal Sentinel that the Brewers offered 1st round draft pick Dylan Covey less than the $2M he was seeking after he was diagnosed with Type I diabetes.

So.... I stick with my original guess that it was about the money.

Yet another AWESOME outing by Manny Parra, who walks three in the fifth, then allows three runs in the sixth after retiring the first two batters.

If you could create a Frankenstein pitcher with Chris Narveson's first inning and Manny Parra's sixth, why would you bother?

Looks like the Brewers have "solved" their roster problem by releasing David Riske, making room for the Return of Carlos Gomez.

Bud's statue is unveiled today.
