I'm actually just trying to make sure the league fills. I personally don't see much of a difference between 52 and 57 given the high salaries now, but that's just me apparently.
Remember, not all owners are as good at building teams as some of you vets. The cap will stay at 54.
There's a
huge difference between $52M and $57M.
The main problem with most owners in this sim is that they can't get past the name of a player and just look purely at the stats that matter. If I dropped the following two fives on you, who would you take IRL?
Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, Bill Russell
Charlie Ward, Mike MIller, Dennis Rodman, Dwight Howard, Shaquille O'Neal
I'd take the first one.
But the second one would destroy it in the sim over an entire season. Both give you everything you "need", but the latter one is built with the correct things prioritized. In a playoff series, the first might just win, but that's mostly because a 7-game series is too small of a sample size to tell anything (which makes you wonder why anybody cares about the sim in the first place).
That's also the difficulty many people have with higher cap leagues... they think more salary, more stars! When, in reality, it's... more cap, more ability to load up on the crap the sim cares about, which rarely falls in line with an all-star line-up. Scud said it best... higher cap leagues are all about getting specialists. An offensive player that has a high usage and a potency to get to the line alot is a specialist. The guy who scores a lot of points from midrange and doesn't get to the line much is not. And that's pretty much what the sim is about no matter the cap... you just the best you can with what you can afford. If you've ever been in a draft league where I've run commentary, you've heard me talk about things like Paint Monster, Boardlords, Bombers, etc.
There are certainly more ways to build a team than the way I do... but when you forget that Dwight Howard has (until this year, anyway) a sub-par post game and that Hakeem had a godly post game and you look at what they actually did, statistically, you realize that Superman owns the Dream in the sim. And that's ******* sad. But it's the truth.
