I hate to say it but I may end up bumping the cap to 57.  I just think it would open it up and make the league more balanced.  My reasoning is that not everyone will have Barkley, Rodman, Shaq, Magic, MJ.  So, those teams will need to use more good players to make up the difference.
If we have some extra minutes, I don't think it'll be a problem.  I think it will draw more people into the league also.
Maybe give it a try and lemme know if that is do-able?  thx

more cap room won't make it any more balanced.  Big names don't mean teams will automatically win.  Changing rules multiple times within the process of getting a league going is a bad thing.  Just fyi.

Let's see, I tried putting teams together at $52 million, then $57 million, then $54 million, and now you're talking about changing it again.  That's crazy.  Post when you've made a FINAL decision so I can decide.  Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I'm sure I speak for more than myself when I say make a decision already.

exactly...I can build one hundred teams for 54 mil that are competitive in this league under these rules....I could easily give 25 names of players that fit in the current constraints....as a matter of fact both of my teams are over by about 500-1000 minutes

Yeah dude, leave it at 54 and move on. If a guy can't figure out how to win at that cap with all the players in the universe to start from, maybe this isn't the game for them.

My team doesn't seem nearly as good as the ones people are listing, but I'm still going to give it a shot at this cap; that's how winning is done!

I'm actually just trying to make sure the league fills.  I personally don't see much of a difference between 52 and 57 given the high salaries now, but that's just me apparently.

Remember, not all owners are as good at building teams as some of you vets.  The cap will stay at 54.

Waffling on the rules when the league is half full is a good way to keep the league from filling.

We'll get there.  This is a great concept.  It's hard, though, to keep from second-guessing myself about the player to build around.  A superstar?  A journeyman?

Jon Barry gives me so many WISNBA stalwarts to choose from among that I'm really having to wrestle with what to emphasize in putting a team together.

Yes, I did hours of research to find my guy and it was fun putting all those teams together just to make sure I got who I wanted.

And now I am tinkering with my lineup to see if I can improve anywhere.

yea...searching for the guy to connect the studs i wanted was the best part about this league....still a bunch of great picks left too

I'm hitting a wall with Gary Payton...keeping with the spirit of the league so far, I would like to change to Avery Johnson.

There's a huge difference between $52M and $57M.

The main problem with most owners in this sim is that they can't get past the name of a player and just look purely at the stats that matter.  If I dropped the following two fives on you, who would you take IRL?

Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, Bill Russell
Charlie Ward, Mike MIller, Dennis Rodman, Dwight Howard, Shaquille O'Neal

I'd take the first one.
But the second one would destroy it in the sim over an entire season.  Both give you everything you "need", but the latter one is built with the correct things prioritized.  In a playoff series, the first might just win, but that's mostly because a 7-game series is too small of a sample size to tell anything (which makes you wonder why anybody cares about the sim in the first place).

That's also the difficulty many people have with higher cap leagues... they think more salary, more stars!  When, in reality, it's... more cap, more ability to load up on the crap the sim cares about, which rarely falls in line with an all-star line-up.  Scud said it best... higher cap leagues are all about getting specialists.  An offensive player that has a high usage and a potency to get to the line alot is a specialist.  The guy who scores a lot of points from midrange and doesn't get to the line much is not.  And that's pretty much what the sim is about no matter the cap... you just the best you can with what you can afford.  If you've ever been in a draft league where I've run commentary, you've heard me talk about things like Paint Monster, Boardlords, Bombers, etc.

There are certainly more ways to build a team than the way I do... but when you forget that Dwight Howard has (until this year, anyway) a sub-par post game and that Hakeem had a godly post game and you look at what they actually did, statistically, you realize that Superman owns the Dream in the sim.  And that's ******* sad.  But it's the truth.
