WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE Topic

Not by making things legal because "people are going to do them anyway".

Agreed - but then again, I am under the influence of the "religious right", so my opinion probably should not count here.

Although I have been known to visit a casino once or thrice in my past . .........................................................

Lets pick one.

Prostitution is illegal in almost everywhere in America.

We have all seen the "Cops" episode where they sting johns or hookers. They ues many officers and tie up a lot of expensive equipment. Almost nothing happens.

The charges are all minor and dont change anything.

If it were legalized and regulated we wouldnt see it, we wouldnt spend money on it, and a small part of the economy would come above ground.

I love your logic. How about the stealing of cars by minors? It seems that they only get a slap on the wrists and they send them home. It costs a lot of money for the cops and the court system. So I take it you want to legalize car theft by minors?
6/20/2011 4:28 AM
Of course in that case you lose your car.

There is no victim here. These laws are designed to protect women who dont want or need it.

Prostitution.

First, I'm going to assume most spouses aren't cool with their spouse getting it elsewhere.   I'm also going to assume that more than one of us would nail a prostitute when the wife was being bitchy if it was legal.  Assuming you still consider it victimless(you want some, the wife won't give it up, the prostitute will for a fee), you're still going to have some broken homes.   Wife finds out, takes the kids, kids have no father figure, kids get a little unruly, etc, etc, etc.

Second, there's the mental aspect of being a whore.  Young women(and men because you know the gays need equal rights) make bad decisions.   It's part of the growing up process.  Are you willing to say that no one will look back on their youth and say "I can't believe I let a fatass like swampy flop around on me for 3 minutes three times a week for 3 years" without regret?  I'm not sure you can come back from that.

Third, it's my contention that men get involve in relationships for the physical aspect.  We've got certain needs that have to be taken care of.  Unfortunately for us straight guys, there isn't a vast expanse of women willing to handle these needs unless they're getting something for it.  Since prostitution is illegal, we have to date them and maybe even marry the one we find tolerable to satisfy our carnal needs.   Making it legal to buy the poon would, without question, stop many men from getting involved in deeper relationships.

Fourth, if the government run sex houses are charging $50, do you really believe that some enterprising gentleman won't get himself a stable of whores and charge $40?  You don't eliminate prostitition, you just drive it further underground(use abortion as a model).

In summation, legalized prostitution will wreck family values.   And damn sure won't eliminate the illegal sex trade.

I would rather pay the extra 10 bucks because the legal ones would be tested for disease.

Says the man with two twenties, a ten and an urge.  The man with two twenties and an urge might be more willing to take his chances.  And, undoubtedly, the street whores aren't keeping client records thus leading to less chance of Mrs. P finding out.

Then, in your mind, strip bars and pornography should also be illegal. Correct?

Because, if you substitute either of those words for "prostitution" in your argument, it fits.

And there is the issue. The inconsistency. Pick one or the other, legal or illegal, but make sure you get it all or this ends up in a circular discussion.

Porn and strip bars are solitary activities.   IOW, there is no physical contact(legally) between you and the object of your lust.   You may get a raging boner but, technically, you have to take care of your own business.   Therein lies the difference.    If your wife catches you whacking it to porn or even uttering a stripper's name while jerking it, she may get ****** but she's not leaving you.   When you start stuffing it in someone else, a whole new set of circumstances occur.

Surely you know the difference between porn/strippers and prostitution.   Right?

6/20/2011 10:40 AM
So, it hurts no one.

Wife, kids, they're perfectly ok with dad going to the strip bar or watching the porn movie.
No way they`d leave.

Really? You really think that affairs are only physical in nature?
6/20/2011 10:45 AM
FWIW, I think the whole sex trade does create a slippery(hehehe) slope that bottoms out at prostitution.   Porn and strip clubs desensitize us to certain things.  They allow us to view women as meat designed for our pleasure.   Most of us stop short of actually using them as such.   Legalized prostitution would allow us to cross that line.

Then it becomes a moral issue.
6/20/2011 10:46 AM
Yeah, I think the damaging ones are physical in nature.

Go home and ask your wife.
1. Can I watch porn?
2. Can I go to a strip club?
3. Can I play hide the sausage with a prostitute?

Wives will draw a line somewhere.  I think most are at line 3.
6/20/2011 10:48 AM
I think you crossed the line further back.

Let me put it this way; how many men would say "honey, I'm going to the strip bar" or "honey, I'm wathcing porn" and then hide "honey, I'm going to get laid"?

I'm thinking you're hiding all three or you don't give a flying crap whether she knows about all three.

Based on the two posts at the same time, we have a difference of opinion.
