We're currently at 96, but I will keep taking signups... Maybe we can get to 120.  (If you are outside the top 96, don't purchase the GC yet... let's wait to see what the numbers are)

If we get to 120, will you consider a three round tourney? (ie: 72 advance, then 24)  Or will it still be a one-shot, top-24 deal?

I've been thinking a lot about that.  At this point, it's still got to be a 2-round tournament.  I would consider advancing more than 24 owners to round 2 though... probably 30, and maybe we'd go with 30-team leagues in round 2. I'd have to give this some more thought though.

If we end up with some number much greater than 96 but short of 120, I would consider trying different league sizes.  For example, 112 owners would make seven 16-team leagues.

The only issue with that (and I realize everyone's on the same playing field) is the loss of the WC.  Playoff points are HUGE in this tourney, so to have some owners just miss out on a playoff spot with 90+ wins in a league where they would have taken the WC could be a big factor.  You'd be going from 33% of teams making the playoffs to 25%.

I'd rather not see the use of any format where the divisions are not all the same size.

If that can't be avoided, then consider awarding more bonus points for winning a larger division.

i'm trying to create a league walk vs hrs and i can't get anyone to join yet this league will have 120 owners join in a week so as the saying goes if you can't beat them join them. sign me up.

no offense yankee, but comparing a one-off league to the WIS Championship is like comparing the Yankees to your local t-ball team.

Also if you goto 16 team leagues without a Wild Card instead of 24 team leagues with a wild card I would suggest seeding all the way down to the division level instead of random draw.  I realize that I will probably be seeded in the middle to lower half but still I would rather be trying to overcome only one extremely high seed than two or three if I get randomized into a tough division.  Having a wild card with 24 teams somewhat offsets that.

Lots of good points made.

I definately don't want unbalanced divisions.  I see that WIS does not offer a 30-team league with a 15 NL / 15 AL alignment.  So that's out.

Regarding 16-team leagues, I would come up with a playoff scoring system slightly different, such that playoffs would be of equal importance as they are under the 24-team league format.  To offset the loss of the wildcard, I may give bonus points to the best non-playoff team.

Let's see how the numbers shake out.
