He must be thinking he can get some extra cash from a smaller school rather than a big 6 school. Hell I turn down a N.C State job just so I can get some extra cash in the bank from a smaller school (which I have to wait untill a certain coach is fired). That is the way it works you take less to be in a big 6 school but if a big 6 school offers you a job then you can get more money from a smaller school.

  • New name at Saint LouisBoise State head coach Leon Rice. interviewed at St. Louis He's coming off of his 4th straight 20 win season at BSU (20-12),
  • Early “hot” name at Stephen F. Austin is Mike Boynton. He’s got a lot going for him on this one…he has been on Brad Underwood’s staff at SFA for the past three seasons (obviously they have been very successful), and he played at South Carolina (for Eddie Fogler who happens to be running the search).
  • Multiple sources keep mentioning Oklahoma assistant Steve Henson’s name surrounding the Texas-San Antonio job

it's interesting to look at the salaries these coaches are receiving and the different tiers/budgets of what one would consider the low-major and the mid-majors.
There are exceptions within every conference but head coaches in the SWAC probably earn in the low 100's. The Summit, Big Sky and Southern conference head coaches average about $100-200k per season. Then you have conferences like the Horizon where they may pay $200-400k. The move up to the Mid-American which could be $400k+. The Missouri Valley is probably double that of the MAC with the Mountain West somewhere in between.

Buzz never built a team the traditional route of bringing in freshmen and let them grow into solid players. Actually his record of high school recruits was not that impressive while at Marquette. (although I do like Med Hill at VT if he comes back from his knee injury)
However, Buzz is a master with the "unwanted" and "under appreciated". Transfers and Jucos. And then gets those guys to perform like 4 star recruits. Darius Johnson-Odom, Jae Crowder and Jimmy Butler, all jucos, and while at Marquette all made first team BigEast when it was the monster 16 team league. VT's top two scores this past season were transfers from Maryland and South Florida.

Jimmy Butler was only offered a scholarship by one D-1 team and now may be one of the top 20 players in the world. His life story is a good read if you get the chance. A lot of similarities to Michael Oher in the movie The Blind Side. Butler was kicked out by his mother in 8th grade because she couldn't afford to keep him. Lived on his own for a few years and finally taken in by a white family while in high school.
I love Seth Allen and Zach Leday, great pickups! He got some good freshman this year that I really like, Justin Robinson and Kerry Blackshire will be beasts. I don't know if it was his recruit or not but Justin Bibbs is a lights out shooter.

AJ Harris is transferring from OSU after this season with 4/5 players from that class are gone. As Mickey Mitchell announced his request to transfer today as well as Daniel Gideons. Grandstaff announced his transfer halfway before the season because of playing time.

That is the #5 NATIONAL recruiting class all leaving except for Jaquan Lyle.

So
#8 C
#12 PG
#14 SG
#20 SF

All thats left is Lyle the #9 SG

Right now the 2016 class has 4 Star #10 Center Derek Funderbook and 3 star #29 Center Micah Potter

A lot of people are thinking Matta might be retiring or at least the speculations are increasing a lot more than they already were.

Everyone returns from this seasons roster (except for a senior walkon) including the top 6 scorers.

Archie Miller has always been thrown around a lot here

A day after leading the Columbia Lions to their first postseason title, Kyle Smith was hired as the basketball coach at the University of San Francisco.

"This is a tough one,'' he said. "I was out there 17 years. Friends and family were a big factor. I'm glad I help build this program and know there is a bright future here.''

The Lions, winners of the CBI tournament, became only the second Ivy League team to win a postseason tournament after Princeton's 1975 NIT Championship.
