Thank you VERY MUCH for this info.
do you have a source about Truman not knowing ....a book ? I want to read up on this.
it is an incredible thing.

an irony not everyone knows is that Nagasaki is the city in japan where the Japanese Christians lived......a heavily Christian population.

I found an article discussing this in the New Yorker from 2015. Truman was surprised by the second bomb especially so soon after the first. He actually did want to avoid civilian deaths and did order no more bombs immediately after.

this whole thing is mind boggling. How could Truman not be fully in charge of decisions of that magnitude.

i always thought of Nagasaki as Truman malfeasance not knowing it was misfeasance.

Bob, I am truly in your debt for this information.

It it is also mind boggling that this type of history is buried.

thank you!

It seems the language of the authorizing documents for the Hiroshima bombing gave authority for the usage of further weapons to ?? within the military establishment----some General likely. That's HOW it occurred without Truman's awareness that the 2nd bomb was being dropped.

the first bomb needed to drop

I don’t question the first bomb.

Dino. NPR ran a piece about this on their weekend morning news show.
Whatever details they aired would be more reliable than my memory.

But I do remember that Truman unwittingly gave authorization-al authority for succeeding usages of the new technology away when he signed the order for Hiroshima. Do a google search for NPR/Nagasaki story. That should get you the details.

Thanks.
this is more important to me personally then you know because I have always wondered why Truman would direct the 2nd bomb so quickly. It would have been so beneath a great and thoughtful leader. I have always thought of him as a butcher of sorts.

nonetheless he made a terrible mistake in giving the military full latitude to future usage of the bomb.....and is accountable.
he did correct the mistake and obviously only the president could issue an attack with the bomb ever since.

somewhere there is a general who got away with murders.

The whole story does make Truman sound like an oops President.
i can never think of him the same. I see Lou Costello as President Truman.

That might be a bit of an overstatement I say (tongue in cheek!). Truman was a quite capable POTUS IMO.
Better by far than what we have now......... and better than many we've had when viewed with the benefit of historical hindsight.

BTW Dino. TY. I owe you one, too. Your thread title spurred me to listen to "Red Rose Speedway" last nite.
When the Night................was beautiful and mellow. Mellow. It fell on me.

Thanks Bob.....I agree with you about Truman..

i think red red rose speedway is just an amazingly great record chock full of classics.
i happen to be very partial to little lamb/ dragonfly. So much incredible melody and licks on the album. Big barn is no shabby opener rocker either.

Btw I knew that you would be the one person who would recognize the song title.
i love get on the right thing although I do think it could have been fleshed out more but that is just nitpicking.

If I get too much buzz on I'm known to sing along "full gale" to "When The Night" much to the dismay of anyone around me. lol

So, I just read this GREAT interview with McCartney (very recent--done since the pandemic's onset). Fantastic. Macca was very chatty. Reminiscing about The Beatles, John and George (and Ringo, too) individually and just being very candid. Wonderful info in it.

Anyway, the interviewer prefaces the interview with his "method" and approach leading up to the interview and mentions that he immersed himself in (like) 3 specific LP's that He felt He needed to re-investigate as a means of furthering his knowledge. He chose the three specifically because he felt that those releases were (either) under-appreciated or had some little known great gems on them. Two He mentioned were "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard" and "Londontown".

Ironic thing is...... is that those 2 releases are (also) two of my favorite but not so popular McCartney LP's.
Those and "Wild Life" which I've always loved precisely because of it's unfinished almost ditty-like group of songs included.
Along with "Some People Never Know" and "Dear Friend" of course.

Both of those songs would have fit nicely on any of the later Beatles LP's.
8/10/2020 12:40 PM
I love wild life the only criticism I have is that I would have put bip bop at end of album. Should have had hi hi hi on it.
Tomorrow imo is brilliant and could have been on revolver.
8/10/2020 1:36 PM
Absolutely! Neglected to mention "Tomorrow". It's a masterpiece!

Hey regressives we do not need you to tell us how to reduce crime.

bad government and voter repression and racist leadership and coddling ******* nazis will lead to some poison letting and maybe even a little blood letting.

the regressives are rooted in its all in the upbringing and other racist small pictures. Little minds can’t solve big problems.
