Let's see. UGA has 40,000 students at about $20,000 per year. If you are losing many at a $800,000,000/year budget, I don't want you teaching my kids. That would mean that you're incompetent.
In 2017, the UGA system budgeted just over $8 billion in expenses and just over $5.1 billion in revenue, for a net of -$2.9 billion.
UGA ended the year with $286mil of cash compared to $251mil in 2016 for an increase of $35mil.

As I said they may "lose money on paper" because of CAPEX and such but their cash does not burn...a term we use in finance for declining cash position.

Because they took in $2.1 billion in state appropriations.

That always happens and it was $436mil, read the UCA statement on page 21, and you are not including another $200mil in cash from components (aka Athletics).

I'm looking at the entire UGA system, not just the one University of Georgia. Overall, they took in $2.1 billion in state appropriations.

And yes, that happens for all state schools, but it's ironclad proof that they are not profiting.

The monies were for CAPEX

Well we are comparing apples and oranges then. LOL.

Is their cash increasing or decreasing? Cash is king the rest is accounting games.

I gotcha. Yeah, they have been merging a lot of the smaller schools to cut costs. I was saying that your larger schools are making a profit. It's ironclad proof that government is morons when it comes to finances.

The system took in $2.1 BILLION IN STATE APPROPRIATIONS!

That's not a profit. That's a subsidy to keep it running.

I'm not arguing against subsidizing state schools with taxpayer money, it's a great thing. But don't be stupid and pretend that those schools turn a profit. They don't.

I think what BL is trying to say is that the cash came from Govn't aid.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that cccp would consider a single mom with three kids "profitable" if she spent way more than she earned in her low paying job and relied on government checks to stay in the black.

They do if they wanted to. They know they have appropriations and fund raising sources. If I know cash is coming in I will spend it. UGA's endowment is over $1Bn!! Stop being obtuse and admit that these schools can make money and what they show on paper for losses does not equate to cash losses. If the appropriations are lower, they will spend less. How do you not comprehend that? I am confused?

Correct me if I am wrong, but the argument isn't 'can they make money?'. I interpret it as 'do they make money?'.

That single mom would not increase her cash position annually and have a significant endowment. She would live paycheck to paycheck. False equivalency. Try again. And let's look at private universities, shall we?

LOL

Are you going to get angry again, BL and tell me to F off? What nationality are you? Tough guy.
