Why should I continue to insist on a compelling legal reason if, in 80 pages, no one can come up with one?

My question for you, what harm is there in allowing SSM?

The transmission of disease is the most compelling legal argument. The incidence of aids is commonly known to be rampant amongst gays. Therefore in order to protect the majority of US citizens SSM should not be allowed because it would foster the exponential spread of that and many other STD. If a gay cheats on his whatever with a straight it would then be transferred more readily amongst the straight population.  Safety first.  Not a great argument, but I tried.

One can argue that grave-robbing and cannibalism doesn't really harm anyone, but that doesn't mean it should be allowed.

The point is, there is NO reason to create a Federal law specifically to address SSM either.  Honestly, I don't see a reason for the DOMA, nor do I see a reason for a blanket SSM law either.  Nor do I see a reason for any court to overturn a legally passed state proposition.

It should be up to the states and the people within those states... period.

Doma isnt interfering with the states.

It applies to federal employees. It also allows each state to not be forced to accept gay marraige.

That's an argument against homosexuality, not SSM.  Not really pertinent to the discussion at hand.

The harm in allowing SSM is that people voted against it?  That doesn't make any sense.

In the seven states where SSM is legal, what harm is it causing?

Reading comprehension problems?

This was my answer: "Well it throws thousands of years of human culture and social norms out the window."

Social norms change all the time. What harm would this change bring?

Same sex marriage is legal in seven states. The norm is changing. I'm asking for reason to not allow it to continue to change. In other words, if you were heading to the ballot box to vote, why are you voting no? What does someone else's marriage have to do with you?

As I have said before I would vote for SSM if it was asked of me.

This is not an issue of the correctness of same sex marriage, this is about the rights of the people as opposed to the Federal Government.

I voted in favor of SSM on Prop 22.  I voted against it on Prop 8, because I think the issue had its one chance on the ballot, and I think whiners who can't take "No" for an answer need to STFU.  If they don't like the laws in the state they live in.... MOVE

Doesn't this come down to the rights of one group of people vs the vote of a slim majority?
