Yeah, I took over an A prestige job. It dropped to A-, but it didn't show it. I don't know why anyone would argue this.

you just have to recruit at a level above the majority. My D2 team has a B prestige and I pulled down a Division 1 PG , and the number 150 ranked center in the recruiting database. Both players are high potential acrossed the board. I didn't get them thru luck. I got them thru contacts and timely communication. I know who I am battling and when they have the budget to spend freely. When there cash is strapped I make a move and sign them. dropdowns/pulldowns are simply signed by those who understand the concept of recruiting.

Taking byu, hawaii was a horrible career choice for me. We might have had a solid run but recruiting on the island is very tough
damn it Z I just took over byu hawaii, and I now feel the pain of island recruiting. You could have told me sooner.

Tough recruiting and a little of poor coaching (6 Freshmen year 1)... They ended up winning the title the year after I , go figure lol.

Can't believe this thread is 7 pages long. By page 2 I had already decided it was quite possibly the most boring thread ever :)

i was curious where the whole luck thing started and i came across this gem - "I can't stand when people talk about **** that they know nothing about."

AHHHHAHAHAHAHAHA

after reading the origins of the luck conversation, i have concluded that colonels has no idea what he is talking about. and i can't stand that ****!

anyway there is virtually no luck in the process, like you are talking about colonels. virtually none. if a player will drop to you, he will drop to higher prestige schools. if he won't drop to the next lower prestige school, he won't drop to any lower prestige schools, 70 miles exempted. a player tells you 100% deterministically if he is a potential drop down or will let you pull him down. the reason you think there is luck is because you don't understand it. it is EXTREMELY deterministic.

the luck is, does a bigger fish in the pond come take a player you blew your load on? but, that is part of the strategy. i think everybody (well, maybe not you, but literally single every other coach at the very least) would agree you should be able to have competition in recruiting. so i really don't see what you are complaining about.

luck = tactical complexity (including the need to predict/guess what other coaches will do), the need to learn about those deterministric processes through experience, reading FAQs, dev chats, forum threads

the underlying question is whether recruiting should be fewer cycles, simpler, more transparent so it is obvious how to sign a kid and simpler to compete

analogies that come to mind are Light Beer, New Coke, Sports Illustrated for Kids......

I think we all agree that recruiting could use some work. But the basics of it are very sound, the # of cycles is maybe a few too many, some would like the last day gone or the 1st day to be extended to a super cycle where everything registers after cycle 1, both valid ideas.

Recruiting isn't 100% transparent but you can gather every single piece of information you need from what you are shown. If you can't then you haven't figured out recruiting yet. Showing "mets and Kentucky sign John Wall for 347.52675 recruiting points!" isn't necessary at all.
