Again, I know its Larry Brown...but 71 years old? Who would play for him? I know he has won and he hasn't had any health problems yet...but he's seventy one years old. Most guys are in retirement homes by 80. Maybe its because I'm 21 and if a 71 year old came to my house to recruit me, I'd be, can you guarentee me that you'll be there for four years? Who says he doesn't win for two years and jump to the NBA as well. Larry Brown I think has had his go in coaching.

Larry Brown rarely stays longer than 3 years anywhere anyway.  I wouldn't hire him for my program unless I just moved up to D1.

I hope Bryce Drew doesn't leave Valpo.  I can't imagine Valpo without a Drew there.

Please, oh please don't let Drew leave Valpo. That would be heartbreaking to see. I have been following them since their Sweet 16 run way back in '98, and it would kill me to see the Drews leave Valparaiso for good.

Don't worry, sources saying he pulled his name out of consideration for the job.

Danny Manning has taken the job at Tulsa

Hard to believe people aren't beating down the doors to sign Bruce Weber.  I have always had a lot of respect for him and actually met him once at a Nike's Coaches Clinic.

Former Xavier Ast. coach Pat Kelsey is the new head coach of Winthrop.  It was really odd.  He and Chris Mack knew each other well and coached and played together.  Last season Kelsey was a top candidate for the Kent State job.  When he didn't get the job he quit Xavier and said he needed to spend more time with his family.  Now, after a year off, he gets the Withrop job.  I have a feeling there was something going on between Mack and Kelsey that was never made public.

Kelsey said that he took time off because he was still troubled by the death of Skip Prosser.  Kelsey was Prosser's assistant at Wake Forest after playing for him at Xavier.

Yes, I remember him saying that.  But he was interviewing for head coaching jobs and did no quit until he did not receive an offer.  Maybe he was having a hard time just being at Xavier where he played for Skip and needed a new environment.  He will do well at Winthrop. He was Wake's and Xavier's top recruiter in the Carolinas and is well connected with the HS coaches and AAU coaches.

Bob Lutz of The Wichita Eagle provided a list on Wednesday of possible candidates to replace Frank Martin at Kansas State.

According to Lutz, the No. 1 option is Colorado coach Tad Boyle, a name that seems to come up in every job opening across the west and midwest. Boyle appears to be pretty happy in Boulder, however, and many may look at this as a lateral move.

Others on the list include the likes of Illinois State coach Tim Jankovich -- someone ESPN's Andy Katz mentioned earlier this week -- along with Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua, Oklahoma assistant Steven Henson and Georgia coach Mark Fox, who has ties to the school.  Fox, however, tweeted that he's staying at Georgia.

As for long shots? Lutz mentions Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett, Harvard coach Tommy Amaker, Michigan State assistant Dwayne Stephens and New Mexico coach Steve Alford.

ESPN's Doug Gottlied is also interested. He was a PG at Oklahoma St but has never coached.  His father is a former asst. coach at K-State and now runs a major recruiting assistance program called Branch West, which is located in southern California. The service helps place kids at college programs all over the country

Hard to see Boyle going to KSU. He is from Colorado and played at KU. The move just doesn't make any sense. Plus he has a really nice class coming in.

Bruce Weber to K-State

Good hire by K-State. K-State is not a big-time program, its a middle of the Big12 program. Weber can coach there and be a decent coach. He won't contend for national championships but he will continue a decent program.

Eastern Illinois interviews it's last 2 candidates this week. The five candidates are:  David Cason (Vanderbilt asst.);  Doug Novsek (Nevada asst.); Kareem Richardson (Xavier asst.); Brian Fish (Oregon asst.); and Jay Spoonhour (Tex-San Antonio asst.).
Spoonhour is the son of the late Charlie Spoonhour.  When Spoonhour, then at UNLV, died during the 2001/02 season, Jay took over the team for the remainder of the season. He was also the National Jr. College COY in 2001 when he led Wabash (ILL) to a 36-1 record and the national title.
