no. were the teams who had more free throws that played fcp higher in ath than the other teams that had less free throws. having a high ath gives you more free throws without regard to defense or offense, and fcp teams tend to concentrate on ath.
uconnut - please read my comment directly above yours. I'm just looking at the full-season stats for the top 25 teams in the Allen world by the "fouls against" stat, in Division I.

Yes, FCP teams try to get players with high Athleticism. So does every other coach, who runs any other set. And fouls in this engine are determined by a host of factors, not just that one. I'm trying to understand why, recently, press teams are beginning to cause their opponents to foul so much.

point is that you can't really study that without looking at other things too. and for me usually when i see a press team with usually high fouls drawn i can point to other reasons that running the press.

Thanks reddy. But what gil is saying in this thread--that press teams commit more fouls--is different than what I'm noticing: Press teams' opponents seem to commit a lot more fouls. When I am playing a pressing team, my own team commits a lot more fouls than it does against teams playing other defenses. And looking at the world stats for "fouls against," I'm not the only one.

To clarify further: I'm not talking about the fouls the press team commits, but the fouls their opponents commit.
on a final note, if you have one team with a much better offense, wouldnt you expect that to draw more fouls? so the other posters complaint that we had about equal fouls really holds no water - not just because of 1 game sample size - but because not knowing defensive sets, you should have fouled significantly more.

Was referencing the above statement jbas. Billy attributes the foul margin to the opponents offensive rather than what def set is being run by both teams. If you played a FCP team with a great offense, then maybe your fouls committed rose because of the offense the FCP team was playing and the players in that offense.
