I'd completely forgotten about Dave Bliss.

From CBSsports

Dave Bliss is returning to college basketball.

It's been 12 years since Bliss resigned from his post at Baylor during an NCAA investigation after the murder of Patrick Dennehy, a current player, by former player Carlton Dotson. Bliss was found to be making improper tuition payments for Deenehy and Corey Herring and, making matters worse, he attempted to conceal those improprities after the dissapearance and death of Dennehy.  (MY NOTE: As I recall, he asked his players to lie to investigators and say that Dennehy paid for his tuition by selling drugs.)

The NCAA hit Bliss with a 10-year show-cause in 2005 for "despicable behavior" and "unethical conduct.". Bliss, however, is not returning to the sport at the NCAA level, but taking a job with Southwestern Christian University, an NAIA school in Bethany, Okla..

That makes two former major D-I coaches at NAIA schools.  Rollie Massamino has been at Northwood (Fla.) for several years.

I didn't know about Massamino. I thought he was out of basketball.

I found a lesser known DI coach who ended up at NAIA.  Tony Ingle was the interim coach at BYU in 1997. They were 0-19 after he took over.
He went to Kennesaw State and stayed there until 2011. They won the 2003 DII national championship and transitioned to DI in 2006.
Now he's at NAIA Dalton State where he started a program from scratch.   In 2014-15, in just their 2nd season, they won the NAIA championship.

In 2014, Kelly Wells turned down the job at his alma mater, DI Morehead State, to stay at NAIA's Pikeville (KY). They won the NAIA title in 2011

A funny story about Dalton St. They started basketball in 1968 but disbanded in 1978, reviving it again in 2013.   In 1968, student council had a meeting to vote for the school colors.  The basketball coach said, "I don't know what colors you'll pick but I've already ordered uniforms in navy and silver."

Al : Bobby Hurley is back in the Rumor mill again. Arizona State! Am I buying the shirt yet? Need a new team. I can't cheer for Syracuse anymore. Too disappointed.

Hawaii has named Eran Ganot (St. Mary's asst.) as their new coach.   They bypassed Benji Taylor who has been their interim coach since Oct. 28. He coached the Rainbow Warriors to a 22-13 record and the finals of the Big West tournament.

Pikeville always gets some pretty good D-I transfers.  Their top two guys this year came from Kent State and Wichita State.  I figured Dalton did the same but most of their guys were JUCOs.  I don't expect them to stay NAIA much longer.

Pikeville also got a transfer from Louisville.   Most of the top NAIA programs thrive on transfers. They aren't required to sit out a year

Hey al, your thread really takes me back in time to the "good ole days." As a California JUCO coach I was so fortunate to have set three times in small groups and talk basketball and the pyramid with John Wooden. Tark the Shark and Tim Gururich mentored me at UNLV. I knew Dave Rice of UNLV when he was a student assistant. I held an annual tournament at UNLV. I worked with Jay Wrigth (Villanova) when he was an assistant for Rollie at UNLV. Dave Rose (BYU) and I came to each others tournaments every year. Rick Majerus would sit around for hours at Nike clinics and just crack everybody up. Sitting in the stands next to John Thompson and Bill Russell. at summer tournaments. Listening to all the great coaches of my era at clinics.

I'm almost 71 now and in failing health. I don't know how much longer I can be on this site, but HD has filled a tremendous competitive void in my life. Despite some of the concerns of the coaches on here HD is a tremendous site. Also the quality of the people here make it fun. I am so grateful for having HD in my life. My wife is VERY THANKFUL also! LOL!

Our head men's coach where I work as SID used to coach under Majerus at Utah.  Oh, the stories...

Hey Coach, nice story there! Fun to know we have some people like you in here. Feel free to share stories about basketball from time to time. I also like Al's thread. Waiting for him to confirm Bobby Hurley's hire.

Green Bay interviewed several candidates during the Final Four. Now they want to interview Joe Wolf, who is an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets.
