Yeah, I think the $120M league shows us how much luck is actually involved in this game. So many teams have Cobb, Joss, and Kershaw and playing in the same parks yet those players end up with a large variance in stat lines. I know the idea is that whoever builds around those guys the best should win, but when 1 Cobb has an OPS .200 points better than another Cobb playing in the same stadium.... there's not much 'skill' that's gonna help you win.
True, but there can be other non-luck factors too. Ballpark, opposition pitching, division mates, etc. If you have Cobb and you're in a division stacked with lefty pitchers, or if you have Joss and you're in a division stacked with stud lefty non-HR hitters, that can have an impact. There's also the managing aspect. How are you using those players? Where are you batting Cobb in your order? How often is Joss pitching? Etc.
