FCD Cup XVII - FC Stratford-Upon-Avon - Champion Topic

The bronze medal match ended a few minutes ago as FC Kingston and Fußball-Club Köln 01/07 e. V. played to a 2-2 draw to share the 3rd Place honor and enter the record book standing on the podium in Cup XVII. Kingston was home after winning the coin toss and grabbed the lead midway through the 1st when Trashawn High jumped higher than everyone else and connected off a corner cross to give Kingston the 1-0 lead. The Billygoats were able to get level again a few minutes before halftime with Greg Eardensohn's perfectly placed shot into the upper corner to make the score 1-1 at the break.

For most of the end half, it looked as if the game would end 1-1 but late drama seemed to give the win to Kingston as a corner kick in the 87th found the foot of Andre Reis, who scored from only yards out to send the 20,759 into a frenzy. However, while the crowd was still chanting after the goal, the ensuing restart of play saw forward Xabi Xabi Cintrón rush the ball down the pitch and unleash a shot just outside the penalty box that Hilario Serpa was unable to stop. Half the crowd was still celebrating when the 88th minute tying goal went in and Eardensohn took a bending effort that sailed just wide in stoppage time, sending a bit of disappointment through the German side as a successful tournament ended for both clubs. Each team, thinking they had won the game in the final minutes, seemed to be happy enough with their hardware as high fives went all around.

Tomorrow is a day off before the two best clubs take to the field to determine the Champion.

Before we get to the Championship, the first leg of the Bums Bracket Finals was played this morning with FC Trojans of SC hosting Not Very United for their half of the title.matchup. While United had the better of the stats, the Trojans jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals by Gideon Kuhlman and Mohamed Burch to give the home side the advantage going into halftime. Tila Quirola finally got his club in the board when he blasted a ball past Trojans goalie Dantrell Gonzalo in the 61st and teammate Tate Papia hit a diving header to level the game. After both sides scored again in the next couple of minutes, making four goals scored in a span of 5 minutes, the 3-3 tie lasted all the way to the 83rd. Darius Minnic, receiving a service from the wing, decided to take a shot from downtown and bent in the winner as United goalie Jozsi Veress didn't move and simply watched the ball sail by for a 4-3 Trojans triumph.

The return game is tomorrow where United will get their chance at home cooking.

Now to the Championship result. The first half of FC Dynasty Cup XVII was held in Scotland when FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds hosted FC Stratford-Upon-Avon King's Men as both teams fight for the right to hoist the trophy. 26,366 came out and saw a defensive struggle as the back lines for each club proved to be the dominant forces for their clubs. Edinburgh did create some early chances with a pair of corners, the second one almost resulting in a goal by Golden Toe co-leader Daylin Plunkett as his shot sailed just wide of the target. Plunkett tried again in the 26th minute but while his shot beat Stratford goalie Winfrith Craig, it went a few inches wide of the far post and the game went into halftime tied at 0-0.

Stratford finally started to generate some possession in the 2nd half. Romao Byington's effort in the 51st was a touch off the mark but it signaled a shift in momentum as The Kings Men started imposing their will on the Bullet Birds defense. The result of a string of sustained pressure was an unassisted try by Juaquine Alberto, who hit a grass burner that skimmed past Edinburgh goalie Paulo Hudson for the Championship's first goal. Now finding themselves down 1-0, The Bullet Birds redoubled their effort and held the ball continuously for the last 10 minutes of the game including stoppage time. Five straight corners were awarded and five missed opportunities by the home side ended the game as a 1-0 Startford victory, who got very lucky to escape without yielding multiple goals.

The Championship heads a little south to England where both teams will take to the field at 7pm to determine the winner of the tournament and FC Dynasty's new Überteam.

Gentlemen, we have ourselves a new Champion. FC Stratford-Upon-Avon King's Men has had the most successful 1st time Cup run in recent memory as they beat FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds 3-1 to take XVII title by an aggregate of 4-1 as there was no stopping the English squad from achieving their destiny.

Edinburgh had already had a remarkable tournament considering last Cup they had played in the Bums Final but the attempt to go from consolation to top of the podium fell short as The King's Men, whose defense has been stellar the entire 7 weeks of tournament play, was far too strong to have that dream become a reality. Already down 1-0 after the morning's action, Edinburgh yielded three straight goals, two to Pepe Cano in the 1st half, as Stratford ran away with it. By the time Romao Byington headed in his goal in the 71st minute, the aggregate was 4-0 and the Champagne started to be chilled. That did allow the Bullet Birds to notch their lone Championship score, as Sandro Huntelaar hit a header right in the middle of the box, giving Statford goalie Winfrith Craig no chance to react. The rest of the 15 minutes left were run out and the entire Stratford bench emptied to the middle of the pitch to celebrate their victory as the FC Dynasty Cup XVII Champions.

FC Stratford-Upon-Avon King's Men and williamshake out of World 92 have have shown the heart of a Champion by taking the FC Dynasty Cup XVII title, while FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds and craigferguso out of World 90 played as well as they could but will settle for the Runner-up trophy. The L'Orteil D'or award, since Daylin Plunkett failed to score will be shared with Mano Araña, who was in attendance and couldn't believe it when his name was called. Both forwards netted 12 goals for the tournament scoring honor. Now, without further ado, the hardware will now be distributed to their rightful owners.

I will make the signing-off post tomorrow (unless the Bums Final goes to sudden death) as another successful Cup comes to an end. There is a trend that teams with extremely long names do well.

Great tournament, everyone.

The 2nd Bums Bracket in Cup history has concluded and FC Trojans of SC has emerged as the best of the rest after defeating Not Very United by an aggregate of 6-4. A virtually even game, with time of possession separated by 15 seconds, entertained the United home fans. Unfortunately for them, their team was unable to overcome the 4-3 deficit from the first contest. Trojans winger Janyd McGourty found the net in the 11th minute and despite Tate Papia's goal to close out the first half, United could get no closer. Oswaldo Guerrero painted the corner early in the 2nd to secure the win and take the consolation final. Inspired by Edimburgh's jump from Bums winner to Championship match participant, the Trojans fan base has expectations.

Also, congrats to FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds and craigferguso who made it to their first Championship and fell just short, taking home the Runner Up honors.

I hope everyone enjoyed the tournament and the competition. With 28 teams from 14 participating worlds, the Cup once again went smoothly thanks to all of you. Thank you very much for all of the kind comments and encouragement. I really do appreciate it...and for the Venmo suggestion, I do this this for the reward of bringing a little enjoyment to the FC Dynasty community and nothing more. If we ever meet in person, however, I will take that beer.

Based on the way the calendar looks, the sign-up phase for FC Dynasty Cup XVIII mid to late October with game play starting the 2nd week of November or so. In the meantime, enjoy your individual worlds and please pass the word to fellow FC Dynasty coaches. Gentlemen, until next time, when a new set of teams spanning the FC Dynasty universe will get together to contest for the ultimate prize - the FC Dynasty Cup!

Any time you are around central North Carolina, we have that beer for you along with your choice of Eastern NC BBQ, Tex-Mex, Sushi, or whatever. Thanks again for showing us how incredibly crappy our development squad is right now, LOL.

Thank you everyone. It's always good to know the tourney still has some life to live.

I'm a bit jealous of your location. I've been a lifelong Hartford Whalers fan and transferred my allegiance to Carolina when the franchise moved. Last time I was in North Carolina (15 years ago) was to watch my alma mater crush the Clemson Tigers football team in a mid-tier bowl game.

You know, WIS ownership did contact me about helping them with FC Dynasty development but, after taking four or five days to write up 8 pages of bullet points to aid me with the discussions, they ghosted me and never responded back to my attempts to continue the conversation. Oh well, it's their company.
