How would you maximize this guy's innings? I'm trying to manage a 5 man rotation with him going every 4 games. Other ideas would be to make him a tandem pitcher every 4 games. LRA with lower pitch count for my starters? Any other ideas?

"Any other ideas"... How in hell was this guy the 31st pick of the first round?!?

He was a HS guy. Want more consistency but lower ceiling? Go college. Want higher ceiling but more busts? Go HS.

If we were allowed to free wheel our budget whenever we wanted I would probably go College scouting 20 mill for any picks that are protected (16 and above for first round) and HS picks for anything else. I see guys like this going in picks 20+ all the time........... ok maybe not guys like this. This guy is a cyborg version of a stud, but some of my best pitchers were picked up as a late first round pick.

DITR question... so I lucked out and had this guy get DITR Player Profile: Walt Aubrey - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports

but I was disappointed that his eye actually dropped by 4 points, is that normal or should that be a ticket?

also will physical rating improve? It might be worth the decrease in eye if his durability jumps by about 20 pts.

I wouldn't worry about his eye dropping 4 points. It is still very high. The good increases in many other areas more than make up for that.

However, at the age of 22, he still has some decent growth ahead of him, but don't expect him to become an All-Star some day. He'll be a good ML back-up catcher and pinch hitter.

1. I've never seen a rating increase massively (DiTR-style) if it didn't increase with the initial bump. So I expect that you're stuck at 26 DUR or only a point or two more.
2. In my observed experience, there seems to be some sort of individual rating cap on them; for example, if an 80 control, 25 VsL/VsR tryout camp pitcher gets a DiTR, the splits may rise 25 points or so but the control isn't going anywhere near 100. If I'm correct about this cap, I'm guessing that it's 92 for eye, and anyone getting a DiTR with eye > 92 has it reduced to 92.

He shouldn't be too hard to roster for an AL team, and you can use his 3 options to get him into the majors for playoffs only early in his career. He's still a pretty terrific DiTR.

Dede pretty much nailed it. Only thing I'll add is you may be able to get him injured (although with health of 100 it might not happen) where you can up his durability. Right now as everyone mentioned, he could be your 3rd C or DH off of the bench in key situations and a great playoff performer.

Actually, one of the things that bugs me about HBD is that players fatigue way too quickly at DH. I get that there's a certain amount of fatigue involved with travel, taking BP, just the whole going to work thing-- but you do that just by being on the 25-man roster, and walking up to home plate 4 times a game (and running the bases about 1.5 times a game) shouldn't really fatigue a 22-year old. IMO you should be able to DH this guy over 100 games as season without his being to tired to drag his *** to the plate after the first 30 of them.

Lends a bit of credence to the concept that it's games played/appearances which matter, not playing time/innings. You simply can't play this type of player four or five games in a row. I have one on my team, he starts against LHP and is my late-inning defensive replacement at C. That seems to get him the right amount of games.
An added side benefit is that with the salary system based on Overall rating, which is influenced heavily by Dur/Sta, this player will never ask for a big contract, you can probably keep him around as long as you want.

I've also seen guys lose ratings upon the initial DITR (particularly 3rd - 5th pitches), and later gain them back fwiw. But I agree, there seems to be a cap to ratings that even DITR won't go over. I've seen it be anywhere from low 90's to 95ish.

This is likely how it should be as well -- HS players are further away from being fully developed so there should be more mystery to where they end up.

FWIW - I haven't noticed a difference in development ceilings in HS vs Col. That said, HS leaves more room for user error to stunt development through missed ST, coaches, games missed, etc.

I’ve got a weird one that I’m not sure there is a solution to but I’d love to hear suggestions.

gonna link my SD team because it’s easier then linking player cards.

https://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/FranchiseHistory.aspx?fid=1729

last night my starter gets shelled, I have no long reliever or mop up so Edwardo Burbon comes in. Who happens to be the next starting pitcher. Now he has the ball for the next game with 42 health.

I want to get the ball off of him as quickly as possible (20/20 pitches) and I have him tandem with Shane Rath. I’d love to get the ball off of Burbon as quick as possible and get a tandem of Rath / Regan. Anyway to make that possible? If I make Regan a LRA or the only SuA will he get the ball next? Any way to kind of hack the system and make sure he gets it?

i don’t want to burn through my entire pen because of this.

Too late now but see this thread from some relevant help. Has tips for getting the guy down from 20 max PC down to 5. Also tips for skipping a guy's start entirely during the playoffs. Not sure how to manipulate a third pitcher preference other than through inning availability, pitch counts, and pull ratings.

Oh wow. 12 years (give or take) into HBD and I'm always learning something new. The designate for assignment with revocable waivers I had no idea. That is a great little trick. Good to know for the next time I need to pull something like this.

Yeah, I haven't used it yet though so buyer beware. PJ was a pretty seasoned vet so I'm not doubting him but I'm not sure why the DFA rules change during the playoffs and let you add the player back. Normally you'd lose a guy doing that in the regular season. I'd only use it if I was wiling to lose the guy (pending FA kind of situation or backend starter I'm not worried about losing, for example)

Weird case here: I traded for a player with an expiring contract. Previous owner picked him up in Rule 5, then extended him without ever going to Arbitration. So he's coming off a 2 x $4.6M contract.
He's showing up on my Arb screen for next season. Is he, in fact, going up for Arb (and not free agency), and what do you think his ask will be?
