I liked a lot of stuff (apparently) in 1993. I made sure that everything on my list for this year----I still listen to a lot (or I left it off!)
1. Sand Rubies --- "Sand Rubies" (The former Sidewinders hit a peak. Lead guitar and hook dominated desert ROCK--Great rock LP.)
2. Radiohead ---- "Pablo Honey" (Their Debut CD---IF you could have predicted how successful they'd ultimately be---you'd get a gold star!)
3. Counting Crows -- "August and Everything After" (produced by T-Bone!!) Stands up really well, even today!
4. Cracker ---- "Kerosene Hat" (Contains the monster Rock anthem "Low")
5. BoDeans ---- "Go Slow Down" (Executive produced by T-Bone) T-Bone also produced their debut!
6. Sting ---- "Ten Summoner's Tales"
7. Collective Soul ---- "Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid" (Their debut! and it had a couple of big big hits)
8. Daniel Lanois ---- "For The Beauty of Wynonna" (Not sure this qualifies as rock but if Sting does, then maybe..........)
9 John Mellencamp --- "Human Wheels" (Excellent, excellent release!) Very underrated gem in his extensive catalog.
10. Sheryl Crow --- "Tuesday Night Music Club" Leaving Las Vegas and much more on this one!
11. Dwight Yoakum --- "This Time" (I'm not joking, it's good.)
12. Jackson Browne ---- I'm Alive" (A return to form and he stays (mostly) off of politics) Though it is Jackson, so count on some pointed lyrics!
I'm gonna limit myself to two honorable mentions and they are ONLY honorable mentions and NOT on my list because they ain't rock!!
But they're both awesome and should be on my list. Especially the 1st one:
Rickie Lee Jones --- "Traffic From Paradise" (Just flat lovely--- help from Leo Kottke and David Baerwald, (among others) and complete with a cover of Bowie's "Rebel, Rebel" (Baerwald is also BIGLY involved on the Sheryl Crow release If I remember right)
and
Kenny Loggins --- "Leap of Faith" (Immaculately produced and highly emotional----mellow with a capital low----DON'T put this on at a party!)
EDITED to add: a personal favorite, but extremely little known, rock piece I forgot to put on the list.
The Watchmen ---- "McLaren Furnace Room" (I don't know hardly anything about this one. It was a promo CD I got from MCA records when I was a buyer and I just dug it!! I've listened to it semi-regularly ever since (every once in a while). I think The Watchmen were from Canada so maybe Crazy can enlighten us. They did have a later CD that is good, too but I always liked this one more!)
