Yeah.  But I haven't listened to them in years.   At least not since I went from cassette to CD.   I probably had an 8-track of the Doobies.

Is there any shame in winning a division in HBD with a below .500 record? Should there be?
8/19/2010 8:52 AM
For me, making the playoffs is the goal.   In JB, I often rested my starters down the stretch after I clinched the division to avoid injury.   If I had won the division with 80 wins, and I think I could have a time or two, I would have felt no shame.   But the other three owners should be embarrassed.

If a vote was held to determine "most likely to accept a huge turdy contract in a trade in Coop", the winner would be...?

Someone with cap space.   I think mlhutch is trying to save his job by winning some games.  You might try him first.

This guy is demanding $360,000 in arby this year. His long-term contract demand? $5.4M per year for four years.

Can you explain this apparent discrepancy?
8/19/2010 11:36 AM
There is a flaw in the system(I'm pretty sure WifS has said "No, that's how we want it work").    A lot of arb guys, usually those who were once late season call-ups, ask for their previous season's salary in arb the first time around.  And, obviously, big money in LT.  I get one or two of them every season.

Are you concerned that this thread might end at 100 pages?

Nope.

Mission accomplished. And both are/will be usable in the ML, if not stars.

Aren't you worried that the extended 55 win rule might have unintended consequences?
ie. someone takes on an albatross contract to save current year?

Now, this probably does not fit under this scenario since $5M over 4 years to a 29 yr old is not that albatross. He's just unusable as a catcher, and I need to shed some long term contract if I'm going to be able to shift the budget to drafting and acquiring Internationals.

If someone is really fighting for their job in S3 or S4 of the 55/125/195/280 rule, they've dug their own grave.  I don't feel bad if they take on an overpaid turd to save their team.  I know they're trying now.

Jason Whitlock asks "Is there a racial double standard for Favre?" What says MikeT23?
8/19/2010 1:53 PM
I'd love to hear the logic behind that.  Twice.  Post deleter.

I think QBs have a double standard.   I just can't think of a black QB that played the same "I'm done" game as Favre.

Ha!

At what point do you just say **** it, "I am not sabotaging the future of this team for the next guy that has to take it over?"
i.e. accept your fate and set up the next owner to succeed
