My 1995 list is not necessarily conclusive as I really didn't spend as much time looking thru CD's and LP's as I should have, so it may be amended.......but here goes: (some personal surprises)
1. Collective Soul --- "Collective Soul" (From a purely ROCK perspective I just had to put this at the top as I wasn't (at the time) and am not now a really big fan of the band---- BUT this LP just blew me away. Strong, strong rock songs, well done.....it's never quite loud enough!)
2. Tom Cochrane --- "Ragged *** Road" (The follow up to Mad, Mad, World is even better. Harder ricking, for the most part, and without the pop single success so it didn't sell as well, but trust me.....it's better!)
3. Emmylou Harris ---- "Wrecking Ball" (This is Emmylou's best non country release.........moody and cool, produced in New Orleans by Daniel Lanois with help from folks like Neil Young-one of her very best!)
4. Alannis Morrisette ---- "Jagged Little Pill" (Dripping in angst, once you get used to her wail, it'll grow on ya)
5. Peter Case ---- "Torn Again" (Love this one, Better than 6 pack of love, so had to include it. I listen to it more than 6 Pk, too)
6. John Prine --- "Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings" (His 1st studio LP since "The Missing Years" and it's a killer!)
7. Steve Earle --- "Train A Comin'" (His best release since Copperhead Road.)
8. Van Morrison --- "Days Like This" (Underrated effort and he finally takes on topics OTHER than spirituality!)
9. Kevin Welch --- "Life Down Here On Earth" (His finest effort to date and his strongest set of songs)
10. Oasis --- "(What's The Story), Morning Glory" (Inspired a bunch of other artists/writers)
Honorable Mentions:
Jewel's debut, Natalie Merchant's "Tiger Lily", is very good, Colin James "Bad Habits" was (perhaps) the blues surprise of the year and (finally)
Neil Young's "Mirror Ball" continued his real strong string of releases in the mid 90's.
