I know what you are saying dBKC, but I guess some of these guys are dependent on who you draft around them. For example, I don't think there is a HUGE difference between Jerry West and George Gervin. Both are scorers. Gervin has a higher eFG and West gives you more assts, D and maybe even rebounds. But Gervin is absolutely USELESS to me on s crappy team. I honestly would be MUCH better off with Ginobili, Michael Redd, Buddy Hield, or heck, even someone like Rashard Lewis than Gervin. And I was alive when Gervin played and can attest that he was one of the top three best offensive players in the league from 1977-1981.
You get my point? Elgin Baylor played FOUR positions at a 99% in WIS ratings with a 70+ defense and a 10/20+ Oreb/Dreb%, but in the WIS sim, someone like Montrezl Harrell or Andrei Kirilenko puts ol' Elgin to shame! Bob Pettit was THE Karl Malone of his era but no one will TOUCH him with a ten foot pole in any of our draft leagues. Andrew Bogut, Kris Humphries, Emeka Okefor and ****, even Anderson Varejao is more valuable than Pettit. See what I mean? See how ridiculous that sounds? These guys are HALL OF FAMERS, and were the Jordan's, Kibe's, Malone's, Barkley's & CP3's of their era's! In a league like this Savage league, players like that SHOULD BE much more valuable than they are! The fact that they are NOT, handicaps someone like me, who remembers their greatness and long careers.
It just makes me cringe thinking that I shoulda drafted someone like Bo Outlaw or Montrezl Harrell over George f'in Gervin!
OK, lemme put it another way....in WIS baseball, Ty Cobb or George Sisler are every bit as good and contributory as Mike Trout or Albert Pujols. In WIS football, a RB like Jim Taylor or Skeets Quinlan can put up better numbers than Barry Sanders, Arien Foster or LeSean McCoy. In WIS hockey, Frank Nighbor or Joe Malone or Babe Dye can have as good a season as Wayne Gretzky, Steven Stamkos or Alexei Ovechkin. WHY CAN'T WIS BASKETBALL DO THE SAME THING???? There is a TOTAL generational bias and it favors the current NBA game with the 3 pt line WAY more than it should!
First of all, EVERY Bill Russell season should have a D of 90 or more. There should be a better adjustment to eFG of earlier players. Cliff Hagen should have an eFG of closer to 55% than his 50% or so he has now. Pete Maravich or Donnie Freeman or Gail Goodrich or other three point bombers before the 3 pt line should have much higher 3 pt percantages than they currently do. There needs to be some more variable factors to input into the sim to increase the value of these earlier players in my opinion. But obviously no one is listening, so I just need to stop griping and do as the Romans do.
